Kit Basher Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I did this one for my sister. It was originally my Mom's car, survived being driven by a teenage boy (that would be me ), and finally became the car my sister drove while she was in college. If your first reaction is "That looks terrible!", I have at least partially achieved my goal. I was trying to make it look like a 4 year old car that has had a hard life, never been garaged, and has lots of miles, mostly on dirt roads. Let me know how I did!
SfanGoch Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Excellent build, man. I'm liking it. Used and slightly weatherbeaten looks more realistic than shiny and new.
72 Charger Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I think its Terrible Well done I love it great model
landman Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I think you hit it dead on. Effect achieved.
Kit Basher Posted September 20, 2015 Author Posted September 20, 2015 Thank you gentlemen. This is the Revell Hemi Dart kit. I filled in the hole in the scoop hood to make a stock hood. Wheels and dog dishes from the Lindberg '64 Dodge 300. Bias ply tires from the parts box. The kit back seat is for a GTS, and was much too fancy. I found a plain bench seat in the parts box and made a resin copy for the front seat. I added a shifter to make it "three on the tree". One memory my sister has of this car is that her dog chewed the passenger armrest on a long trip at night. I added that to the model. This will be a Christmas present for my sister. I hope she likes it!
Tom Geiger Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Great model Hugh. It's fun to build family history and even more fun to give them away as gifts. I did my sister in law's first car, a lime green Chevette, a few years ago. I did it right down to her college decals. She was thrilled and it sits on a shelf above her computer.
Mike 1017 Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I like it. Just enough patina it make it look real.
Kit Basher Posted September 20, 2015 Author Posted September 20, 2015 Thanks, Tom. I wish I had thought of the college decals. I think she had a window sticker on it. Oh well, too late now! Thanks, Mike.
MGL Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I keep coming back and looking at this, these replicas of personal cars are my favorite builds. Have you got anymore shots with that dog chewed interior?
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Now that's my kind of build! Very nice work! I like the old Mopars!
Kit Basher Posted September 20, 2015 Author Posted September 20, 2015 Thanks guys. Sorry Mark, I did not take a pic of the interior.
bogger44 Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 That does look terrible.....but in a good way! Lol. Excellent weathering Hugh, I dig it.
Sean W Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Hi Hugh. I would have to say "mission accomplished." Really cool model, and I love builds that have real connections to 1:1 cars. Great job.

Kit Basher Posted September 22, 2015 Author Posted September 22, 2015 Thanks fellas. It's cool that I can put up a funky old car and you guys like it. I really appreciate it.
Jantrix Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Hugh, you must revive this thread in December and let us know how your sister reacted. It's a great looking model.
Kit Basher Posted September 23, 2015 Author Posted September 23, 2015 Hugh, you must revive this thread in December and let us know how your sister reacted. It's a great looking model. Thanks, Rob. I will try to remember to do that. Remembering is not my strong suit these days....
