Sledsel Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Found this kit cheap, I have a 40 SD I was rebuilding and was a bit of a glue bomb and was thinking of this as a donor. I heard somewhere that this kit is messed up (fenders lights, ect) What I need to know is if the main body is okay. The one I am rebuilding is bad, upon removing the ultra glued windows, the roof broke around the windshield and I figure it would be easier with a donor body. Any input is appreciated.
Mark Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 The main body is the same (mostly)...check the area below the cargo door. Earlier issue delivery kits had rear bumper brackets molded to the lower body. The Round 2 Three Stooges issue has the body notched in that area to allow the usage of the coupe's bumper brackets that are molded as part of the chassis. I think the alteration was made for the RIDES issue pictured. If you have the delivery's rear bumper, you could cut the lower pan area from the damaged body and piece it into the RIDES one.
Jantrix Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Well, never having built or even seen that kit opened I can't speak to it's quality. What I can say, is that I have no memory of seeing that kit built on any forum. That might tell you something.

Don Sikora II Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 That kit also has locator holes above the top corners of the windshield. They fit to pins on the newly tooled visor piece.
Sledsel Posted October 6, 2015 Author Posted October 6, 2015 Well, I just ordered the Rides kit, I will update what I find in the box.
John Goschke Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Why do they call it a "Woodie" on the box?!
Sledsel Posted October 6, 2015 Author Posted October 6, 2015 Not really sure why it is called a woody
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Why do they call it a "Woodie" on the box?! Because "Really Retarded Restyle of a Vehicle that Was Once Good Looking" wasn't deemed to be good marketing copy.
lordairgtar Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Not really sure why it is called a woody It's what the marketing guy got when he realized how many dumb people would buy this.
FordRodnKustom Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 That was an odd one out of a strange series. I think I know what was for lunch the day that was approved.! Wish I had one. I'd like to do a detailed review, just for historical purposes.

ChrisBcritter Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 (edited) If you just need a body, here you go:http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-24-1-25-Model-Car-Truck-1940-Ford-Sedan-Delivery-Body-Glass-/221905811053?hash=item33aa9df66dAlthough the Rides fender unit might be the base for a custom - french in some new headlights, scribe the rear fenders to look like it has flush skirts, and put those podded headlights on a roadster where they belong... I have a project I can use the lights on, another for the ribbed bumpers, wheels/tires go to the trash, rest gets divided to parts boxes. Edited October 7, 2015 by Sledsel

I'll try to do that for you I have the Rides 65 Ford, to lower the rear, the axle is bowed, like it could be an independent rear, but it is the solid 9" rear...
keyser Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Wheels and fenders useless. I bought a few cheap for the 40 chassis for some resin projects. Body ok save for the visor, but ok. Cannot believe it went thru tooling to this. Guess I don't understand the biz.
Brett Barrow Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Ah... Learning Curve-era AMT, you were the best!

Please make a detailed review of the contents when you get it, it looks so bad on the boxcover that I wonder if one could turn it in to something nice or it is a total write-off.

Deano Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 (edited) Ummm, not sure what that has to do with this but OK. Thanks for the reply. Most, if not all, of the "Rides" kits had some, um, "interesting" features. The 65 Ford and the 55 Nomad had lowered suspensions achieved by "bending" the rear axles. The 40 Ford Sedan Delivery; well, you can see the box art. Basically, the whole series is, um, fubar, but good for parts. Edited October 7, 2015 by Deano
Sledsel Posted October 8, 2015 Author Posted October 8, 2015 Some were okay.... 67 Impala, Ford GT, 2004 GTO and a couple others. Not sure of the Merc or 72 Chevy truck.
Spex84 Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 The "Rides" '40 ford also has lowered rear suspension achieved by bending the rear axle. They even put ribs around it like a bendy-straw, like it's some kind of flexible independent rear-end or something. LOlolol. Trash. The body is usable for a commercial build if you have some other fenders to put it on. The fenders in the kit could be used on a custom of some sort. I recently used the headlights for my '30 coupe build (with AMT phantom vicky chrome rings and lenses). The chrome door-sill plates can be modified to look like the plug covers on a nailhead engine. The wheels and tires are a joke. It has modern bucket seats and a dashboard with digital gauges/radio molded in (if I remember correctly). If I was actually going to build one of these, I think I'd try to make it a chopped convertible speedster by lowering the roof to form a trunk....and I'd scribe the fenders to look like it has hidden headlights, like the Cord 810.
