83 Shelby Charger far from junk in my book. I'm still living in the 80ies and still loving it. If you like the car who cares what anyone else thinks. It's about you and I am sure that you will make the right decision.   Jeff

Grab it at that price or it will always be the 'one that got away'.   There has to be a whole club collecting those, there is for just about everything else.

Have you verified for yourself that it is the first one made or are you going by the sellers word? Always verify facts like that independently if that is a buy/not buy factor or a price factor. Sometimes people selling cars are a bit loose with the facts and the truth. Whether through ignorance or intent, it is up to the buyer (you in this case), to not get burned.

Being a Mopar guy I will add my 2 cents here,

1st how do you know its the first one made. ? I am going off of memory but I think the 1st one was silver with blue accents

What condition is it in ? how many miles ? I assume its not a turbo car as I dont think turbo cars appeared till about 1984 or 85

Rusty ? ck the bottom of the car extremly well  as they are known for floorboard rust issues .

Are all the special body parts included ( spoilers flares etc etc )

If you don't, I know someone who probably would send a truck out from CA to get it! He collects a lot of odd '70s/'80s cars. And I'm his worst enabler.

I hope he lets me get it! as I only have a 68 dart drag car, and drag cars (unless well-known) aren't that collectible! I would LOVE to have this , but bad thing is, im going to sell most of my stash of both models and real life parts to get it, but it'll be worth it.

I was never remotely a fan of these cars (worked on quite a few of the regular Chargers over the years), but we all prefer different things. I know that I like odd thing that no one else likes. With that being said, I say, you work hard for your money, if that is what you want, and if you can afford it, go get it. Being the first one it should be well worth $1500. I'm sure at that price, if you don't buy it, someone will soon.

You do not have it yet? I know when I find a deal, I jump on it ASAP..... I left a rubber check deposit on a car to hold it for 2 days once, then showed up with cash. Glad he did not cash it.

Still have the car also. 72 Montego GT Q code. 69,000 miles

For that kind of money, you'd be crazy not to.

Make any repairs needed, keep it as authentic as possible, and then offer it to the club. Your price (within reason) will probably be met,or a reasonable offer.

Hopefully it doesnt have a sunroof that has let 3 or 4 gallons of water sit in the rear floor boards. Lol!

Many years ago a friend of mine was going to buy a shelby charger from a hole in the wall back woods "car dealer" and it had been spray painted flat black except for the shelby stripes... and when we went to get in it, the rear floor pans were literally an aquarium up to the top of the trans tunnel. It was a turbo car too, but was a complete turd since the turbo was toast.

My brother owns a 83 Dodge Rampage 2+2....real nice little truck but he needs to find the front fender vents for it its restored other than for those.  I worked at a Chrysler dealership back then...they had their share of problems but were decent vehicles long as they were taken care of. The turbo ones had plenty of power.  Make sure you check the condition of the floor under the car well they did tend to rust as many cars did.

Anyone have any fender vents from a 2+2 Charger or Rampage...???...my brother could use them.

Nope, no sunroof, this car is a sort of "bare-bones sleeper" kinda car

Edit: im thinking of fixing up my mini-motorcycle, selling it, and buying the charger! ooohohohoh I cant wait! Im thinking itll be a nice car, although not a turbo car (that I know of). How much do you guys think its worth restored? im thinking 7-8k?

I wouldn't expect even remotely Shelby-Ford money for anything he did in conjunction with Chrysler, outside of the Viper if it's truly going to be going away.  It would be more of a rare piece of Chrysler and Shelby history that needs to be saved.

If that car is absolutely spotless when it's done, $6-7500 is a reasonable estimate. I'd have it appraised by a professional automobile appraiser. There are several advertising in Hemmings.

You probably will not make your retirement money on this, although if you manage the project intelligently, you'll still make some money in all likelihood, especially if it's fairly straight rust-wise.

More than that, you're preserving an important piece of automotive history, and that's worth more than all the money in the world.

As an idea, once restored, if you have no takers, consider donating it to the AACA Museum in Hershey. You'll be able to deduct its full fair market value as a charitable deduction from your federal income taxes (and state if your state allows charitable deduction,) and you might be able to deduct at least a portion of the purchase price and restoration costs as well, under those circumstances.

Consult an accountant or a registered tax preparer for your specific situation.
