MrObsessive Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I ran across this interesting article here, and it should be interesting to see what comes of it. Revell is going to tease us with only making a very few of these for the show, so for those of you going there, here's a heads up to get the jump on what could be a mad rush to get 'em. Check it out!
mikemodeler Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Thanks for posting Bill! Even though I am not going to the show, it's nice to see a car company (Ford) realize the impact of handing out these models in an effort to attract buyers (parents!) to their displays. Also mentioned in the article is the fact that there will be a snap kit released in April for the masses, gonna have to be on the look out for that one!
MrObsessive Posted December 29, 2015 Author Posted December 29, 2015 (edited) I want to add that what kills me is that you just know there are going to be some show up on eBay selling for insane prices. It's the free market for sure, but just goes to show how some folks gotta cash in wherever they can I guess. Edited December 29, 2015 by MrObsessive
SfanGoch Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I doubt that this will be done at the NY Auto Show in March. Even if it is, I'll wait for the retail kit. I gotta shell out 32 bucks to look at cars I can't afford in order for my kid to get a "free" kit? I'll save the money and get two kits for the price of a ticket.

(unless you just have to own one of em,who cares what somebody might pay for one?) Hopefully the other version will have outside mirrors and realistic lights..... Edited December 29, 2015 by mike 51
Tom Geiger Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I'm happy Revell is doing this. It shows that they are chasing the youth market for long term survival. I'll bet a couple of kids get turned on to the hobby this way.

Howard Cohen Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 This is a great way to get kids started! I did the 'Revell-Testors' make&take at the car show in Montreal in 1963, although I had built models the previous 2 years. It kept me happy and the following year I had a model car display and I kept at it. I still build models and I still go to car shows The disappointing part is those of you who only seem to see a downside to this. You complain about someone selling the kits on Ebay; you complain about the cost of the show ticket; you can't see the good in this, you can only complain. Quit your BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH complaining! This is a hobby to make your life more enjoyable!

My favorite is that we complain there are no kids in the hobby but when Revell puts out some easy snappers for kids, guys on the boards complain that the money could've been spent doing another kit for the aging dinosaur population...

Nah, Revell isn't doing this because they're thinking about, as Ivana Trump was fond of saying, "de keedies". These are essentially BIY promos ordered by Ford to be used as bait to get parents to check out the upcoming product line. Strictly business. My comment about how I wish to spend, or not, and what I consider worth the expenditure of what's in my wallet is just as valid as your opinion on the current state of the hobby. I might be ageing; but, I ain't boneyard ready yet. I buy kits for my son. He picks, I pay. Pretty simple. He gets what he wants and the hobby lives for another day in the hands of a new generation. I don't need to pay for two tickets in order to get a crummy "free" model. I could just as easily point out the inanity in countless other comments on a variety of topics across the board; but, that serves no good purpose. Everyone is entitled to state his opinion, right? I'd like anyone here to point out where any form of complaint to that effect was posted in this thread. You can't. I was stating my opinion and nothing more. If any momo in the cheap seats has the inclination to read between the lines, parse my comments and attempt to misconstrue the meaning of my post, have at it.
1930fordpickup Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 A great tradition the last three years at the Detroit show. They will not give them to adults even if you ask to buy the kit.

Dave Van Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Same thing Revell - Ford did with the Mustang snap kit. wait a short time and buy it for $10. It's a good thing for Ford and our hobby.

Hmmm... my post had nothing to do with you. Yes, Ford ordered the models as a promotion and kudos to Ford for that! Pulling in kids the same way they did in the old days, developing an awareness of their brand in young people, a great way to build the brand for the future! And Revell is the "go to" company for that since they are currently marketing such kits to kids. And yes, that same kit will make it to the general market after this promotion is done just like the Mustangs. All in all a good thing and a nice surprise for people who are going to the auto show... I doubt anyone will go specifically to get this model. And pox on the father who takes the kit from their kid and sells it on eBay! Yea, no doubt there's one of those out there.

I don't care what they pay for it------------it's still an irritation just to see it.
robertw Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Glad to see Ford doing this, no matter what their motivation is. Any attempt to get kids into modelling is an effort worth praising.
