Ramfins59 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 With the "doom and gloom" snowstorm predictions for a lot of the country and especially the eastern seaboard, please may everyone in the path of the storms be safe and warm.
mikemodeler Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Thanks Rich, same to you. The local weather guys are talking about how this snowstorm might dump some serious snow up in the NC mountains and maybe a flurry or two here in Charlotte. Sounds like it could really do a number on folks living north of D.C. though.
MrObsessive Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 (edited) Yup! I went to the store yesterday to get the jump on the mad rush that's bound to happen tomorrow evening into Friday. I'm all set with people and cat food, and since it's supposed to be a snowy weekend, PERFECT time to get more done on that '59 Chevy! There was supposed to be overtime for work Saturday, but I told them if I wake up early Saturday morning and see snow on the ground, back in the bed I go! They're saying here in the Central PA area we expected to get 6+ inches out of this. We'll have to see----I wouldn't be surprised to see a whole foot or more before it's all said and done. afx Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 (edited) We're in the eye of the storm. They are predicting 2 feet(!) Edited January 23, 2016 by afx
Harry P. Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 I heard that earlier this week, DC was literally paralyzed by a snowfall of 7/10 of an inch. Less than one inch of snow crippled the city. How in God's name are they going to handle a foot or more?
Tom Geiger Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 We're in the eye of the storm. The are predicting 2 feet(!)Same prediction for my area, a bit west of Philadelphia. It started in the last half hour and my deck is already covered. From the last report it looks like steady snow all the way through tomorrow and letting up on Sunday. So that's probably when we'll get to snow removal. I had the snow blower running this afternoon, so I'm set to go.Saturday? Not going out there! I hope to spend some quality time on my 1960 Plymouth limo!

Harry P. Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 But spare the Nationals. They're a pretty good team...
afx Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 (edited) Here is what it looks like this morning and we are only about halfway through the storm. Edited January 23, 2016 by afx
Foxer Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Looks like NYC will be the buried one, but they know what snow is. North in the Berkshires we're still MAKING snow on the slopes .. not a flake in the air!
Crazy Ed Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Here is what it look like this morning and we are only about half way through the storm. Darn...... I guess the BBQ is off for this Evening huh? Hopin' all of you in the effected area get through this OK.
crazyjim Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 No snow here in FLA but the high today of only 49 and going into the 20 tonight. I have to adjust the pool timer to run most of the night.

You may also want to toss a blanket or two over your exposed pipes! Really sounds like a Really good time to Not be living on the East Coast!
crazyjim Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Exposed pipes are already covered with insulation, Ed. I should be good there. It's pretty windy and that would make it difficult to get sheets over some of my plants. I'll probably end up losing some.
MrObsessive Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Well, I just took this shot that's in the back of my house just 10 minutes ago............ There's maybe two feet already?? You can't even tell that's my Challenger BURIED under all that snow! The other car is my next door neighbor's Kia Sportage. They usually park on the street (something I NEVER do), but the road we live on is a "Snow Emergency Route", which is in effect for the time being. NO parking is allowed while the snow emergency is on, and they reserve the right to tow your car away if you're in violation of that. As of right now, it's still snowing quite hard, and it's not to let up till sometime this evening. Of course, tomorrow the fun begins as I'll be digging myself and the neighbor's car out. The winds are to really pick up though, so it may be a feckless attempt to even try. Sigh...............already I wish it were Spring...........
crazyjim Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Hope you have a machine to move the snow or better yet, a young neighbor looking to make a couple bucks shoveling. I sure don't miss that stuff - I'd say s . . . , but it's a 4 letter word.

I sure don't miss that stuff - I'd say s . . . , but it's a 4 letter word. No such luck on a snow blower Jim. It'll all be hand and arm power for me. My next door neighbors are a young couple (early 30's) so of course, they'll be out helping. Some kids will come by probably later and offer to shovel in front of the house. I'll have to see how tired I am to have them do it........ If it's still bad come Monday morning with blowing and drifting snow............guess who's going to take a snow day from work??
