The title says it all, I guess. Just saw ChrisR's 924 model and I'm envious. It reminded me how I really loved these models back when you could get them at any 5 & 10. Hey you kids! Get off my lawn! Sorry, just a reflex... I know they were simplified kits, but they looked good on the shelf and my eyes and my patience aren't what they used to be. These are the only ones I remember. I think there may have been others kits, I know there wre variants of these at least.  Any thoughts? Could I write Monogram? Would it do any good?

You are better off watching eBay.

Little to no chance Revell/Monogram will release any of those anytime soon.
Only exception might be the 911 based simply on the fact that the 911 Porsche has been around for ages.

And... get off my lawn!

I think that yellow 911 shows up as a kit with paint and such .

I believe you're right. I have a memory of that, maybe molded in light blue, on sale cheap at the KB Toys about the same time I bought the same kind of deal with their T-28A airplane kit. In fact I might have bought the Porsche too--since I haven't seen that box in ages, it might be the one I actually built (painted silver) in the early '90s.

I have two of the Mercedes SL kits (I built one and it is my avatar pic here) and I bought them within the last 5 years. I paid very little for them. But yes, would be nice to see it reissued. It needs a lot of work to be correct but the version pictures above come with the steelwheel-with-hubcaps and if one paints them properly they look realy good. The other version, the rally-car came with Barrock alloys, bootspoiler and a rollcage.

I could be wrong but didn't they just reissue the 911 a couple of month's back? I have the one in the picture. I built it last summer and other than the headlights being a WTF molding it is a great kit.

A lot of people/forums/etc. have been pestering Revellogram to bring back the Land Rover.
It's regularly high up in the results of reissue surveys, too.
We are now in the wake of the Defender being discontinued, which is treated almost like a national disaster,
and gives all Land Rovers a massive boost in popularity.

But no. It wouldn't sell, you know.

The BMW kit like the Rover was a full detail kit.  I'd buy any of the others.....the 911, TR7/8 and 924 if the include the racing parts and stock parts. Decent little kits.

I have the SL. Built it like the box art

Silver with Red interior.

I too would lo love to see these back out

1/8 inchAt least Monogram's ` plastic axle was Stronger than JNo-Han's

Though, I would likely replace it now with a Wire axle

Yes, now that you said it, those plastic axles were a delightful waste of raw material.
Held up reasonably well in sand box rallies, too.

I bought the rally SL maybe a year ago off ebay and I too paid very little for it (IIRC under $10). Not a high demand for them so if you want one, your best and most economical bet would be to watch the auctions.

There was a Porsche 924 or 928 (I never can remember which is which) in this series, too, that wasn't bad. I have one in the stash and dig it out and work "at" it briefly from time to time, until some other shiny squirrel grabs my attention. I'll finish it someday.

I really like that Land Rover, in my younger days working at a marina we used one equipped with a

hitch in front to launch boats. the hitch on the front bumper and 4 wheel drive made things easer for

me, I had no drivers license yet.

The last defender just rolled off a day or two ago so it would seem some type of commemoration

could be reason to put it out again.

I think the Porsche that was just released is a more detailed ROG kit. Could be wrong. Thanks for all the other great pictures. Some of those I had forgotten about others I never knew. Tax time is coming. I'll have to watch for a couple of these at auction. I actually have one of the Land Rovers on my bench, shoved to the back. It is in time out until it starts behaving like a nice little model kit should. Every time I work on it something goes wrong.

I have the Triumph. Picked it up at a flea market few years back. I like strange looking models.  I wonder if that Mercedes is the same as the old ESCI Mercedes 450SL? I have few of those.

I found this one a couple of years ago after searching for a long long time. I was going to say I'd love to see it reissued, but at todays prices it would probably be more that what I paid for it.

The BMW, Land Rover and 928 are not part of the series originally posted about.  These 3 are all full detail kits, while the kits in question are all curbsides.  I personally love these kits and wish they would be reissued.  I always thought they were perfect kits for builders making the transition from snap kits to full-detail glue kits.  They are also a perfect "slumpbuster" build.  The only kit of this series to be reissued lately was the Ferrari 308.  It was put out by Revell of Germany a few years back.  If i recall correctly, the kits in this series were...

Porsche 911

Capri II

Porsche 924

Triumph TR7/TR8

Mercedes 450SL

Datsun 240Z

Ferrari 308

All of them were issued as stock kits followed by Race and/or Rally versions.  The 911 was issued in blue plastic with paint and glue IIRC.  Feel free to correct me if i left anything out.
