GMP440 Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 I think the time has come for Round 2 to come out with the 68 Coroner R/T. Maybe even Moebius take on this subject. We almost had it come out a few years ago. But, it was cancelled.A stock version, drag version and NASCAR versions could be done. I'm pretty sure a lot of members here would applaud the release of a 68 Coronet kit. The kit would definetlywell well. Maybe
Snake45 Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 I'd love to have one. Had an original MPC back in the day, sadly, lost it in a house fire. Would love to be able to do Landy's.If we're dreaming for an all-new kit, how about making it so it could be built as either an RT or a Superbee?I might have to get one of the Modelhaus repops while I still can.
gtx6970 Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Sure would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath to get an all new one. Originals command top money for buildups . Then again, Never in my wildest dreams think an all new tool of a 1955 Chrysler 300 would develop either. If they do it, I'll take a case right now. Especially if they do it so can be done as a Superbee or an R/T
Daddyfink Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Yes, it would be nice, but the tooling has changed so much that the best bet would be a new mold
Harry P. Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 If anyone would do it, my money is on Moebius. Round 2 is too busy reissuing 50-year old kits in new boxes with useless miniature "collector boxes" inside... old, old kits at today's prices... Moebius, on the other hand, is busy releasing all-new kits of cars that have never been kitted before. It's Moebius that's on the cutting edge of the hobby.
CapSat 6 Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 I could see Revell using the 1/10 master for their '69 Super Bee (if they still have it), scale it down to 1/25th, convert the body and interior details to '68 Super Bee configuration, mix in some of the chassis and engine details from their '68 and '69 Charger kits...and there you go!I think the overall proportions & details of their '69 Super Bee are pretty decent...much better chance of this happening than Round 2 finding the old MPC '68 Coronet body tool (as nice as that would be).
CapSat 6 Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Revell has also been known to do some Landy kits recently, a 2nd variant (after stock Super Bee) being Mike Landy's Coronet would be nice.

They don't have to "find" those molds, everyone knows exactly where they are. They became the '69 and then the '70, and the '70 has been reissued several times.

And I'm just not paying $100 for a clean buildup original. I have an R+R resin one. Its not perfect but its not hateful either. ,,,I just would rather not have resin.I'm working on a trade deal to get a clean 69 locally,,,but would much rather have the 68 .
Mr mopar Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 YES YES YES this is one I would like to see come back! but I think I would like to see Moebius do it more detail .
Snake45 Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 I'm working on a trade deal to get a clean 69 locally,,,but would much rather have the 68 . A local Mopar nut in my town has a VERY clean '68. He restored it himself and is familiar with the "right" way to do things down to body color overspray on the primered underside, but he took a couple liberties with this car to do it the way he wanted it. He put the '69 Six-Pack hood on it, painted the same gorgeous dark turquoise as the rest of the car. It's a little odd looking when you first see it, but it doesn't take too long before the whole thing starts looking very "right."
High octane Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 A couple of years ago I picked up one from MODELHAUS, like I've said before and why others didn't get one is beyond me. I also picked up a built-up '68 Coronet last year in really nice condition, and another modeler has offered to buy it from me. You could want the moon from the model companies, but don't bet that you're gonna get it.
Carmak Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 I have a 68 HT and vert that I got at the Old Town Escorts swap meet in 85. They cost me $12 each.I have a 1:1 68 Coronet 500 vert but I can't get it's picture to upload.I would love to see a 68 Coronet reissued!
1972coronet Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 A 1968 Coronet R/T would be excellent ! From there , a Super Bee variant could be added (different upholstery pattern vs. the up-scale R/T) , preferably with bench seat and rubber mat-pattern floor , and naturally in the pillard coupe ( colloq. , "2 door sedan" ) bodystyle (few if any hardtop Super Bee's were made in 1968) . Convertible Super Bee ? None were made in any year .A "generic" block could be tooled-up , complete with a Hemi "top-end" or 383 "top-end" ; optional Torqueflite ( console-shift for the R/T ; column-shift for the Super Bee) and 4-speed ; 8 3/4 rear (383 and Hemi / Torqueflite) and Dana 60 ( Hemi with either transmission ) .Let's Get One !
Rodent Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 I still have most of my original convertible in very restorable condition. I have toyed with rebuilding it on a 68 Road Runner chassis and Hemi. I even went as far as to order new bumpers and taillights from Modelhaus.

Funny you should mention that Craig as I was a member of the Old Town Escorts for 10+ years 'til the club folded in '86 I believe. Those were "good times" back then.
charlie8575 Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 (edited) I always liked the look of the '68. Chrysler's styling that year was outstanding almost across the board.Whoever does one, I'm buying one or two.AMT could use the Roadrunner/GTX underpinning, Revell could use the Coronet/GTX underpinnings. Moebius could use the Satellite. A new body/interior/chrome tree is all that's needed.Very few excuses for any one of them to not do it, especially given the pent-up demand. One only need see eBay for proof of that.Charlie Larkin Edited March 25, 2016 by charlie8575
Ron Hamilton Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 I have a R&R Resin '68 Hardtop' which is not too bad.I adapted an AMT '68 Road Runner Chassis and running gear. I also did the same thing to a R&R '68 Charger R/T and a Modelhaus '70 Charger R/T. None of them are built yet, just awaiting their turn.
John Pol Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 it would nice if they brought that out to bad that they your planing to bring out the Demon what ever happen to that
AC Norton Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 ....one of my TOP 10 FAVORITES of all time.... built and ruined one new in 68, then built Landys 68 SS/FA car they ran in the 68 season, back in the summer of 1999, sold it to a guy later for outrageous money,,,,,and just last week got a factory sealed one, and a factory sealed Johan 69 GTX annual.... some box art and certain muscle car kits have a lasting effect on some of us, and this kit is one of them....decades pass and all this so called better, hi tech stuff comes along...yeah, right,,,,,yet some of those golden kits are everlasting and always desired by collectors and builders alike, and will be decades from now when most of that other stuff will be long forgotten.....MPC, AMT, and JOHAN forever..............the Ace...
disabled modeler Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Yes, it would be nice, but the tooling has changed so much that the best bet would be a new mold Id love to see this kit make a comeback and with the little trailer too...I have a old buildup of the MPC 68 and 69 that are missing parts,etc....these had a very cool looking body style to me and we once owned a 68 when I was about 7.
MrObsessive Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 While I'd love to see this one make a comeback (I have a '68 rebuilder convertible), I'm not holding my breath for any of the model companies to ever do this one. I hate to be the mean guy in the room, but with very limited tooling dollars that the model manufacturers have to spend on any one particular car these days, they have to be VERY choosy in what they decide to spend said dollars on. It's a nice car to be sure, and I can remember when it was new as a little kid, but I've become more of a pessimist in recent years when it comes to new stuff that can be released as far as kits are concerned. Heck, how long has it taken so far just to get a FULL DETAIL kit of the new Corvette? I have yet to see it! Maybe Moebius will surprise us and make this one a reality............I can almost guarantee the others won't give it a passing thought.
om617 Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Recently finish an attempt in resin so a styrene model would be a nice add on,but i am not holding my breath for it to happen. I suspect we are more likely to see a new 70 Charger over this.
gtx6970 Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 (edited) I built a convertible annual a few years ago to replicate a good friends actual car. QQ1 medium blue metallic with the 2 tone blue and white interior. 440 auto , Factory A/C and power window car Edited March 25, 2016 by gtx6970
