Thanks Brad, Dave (I don't know how to bleed brake lines btw, so that won't be a worry ;)) and Paul.

Paul, I use Tix silver solder and flux to answer your question.  Has a low melting temp., flows well and gives a pretty strong joint.   Clean up is reasonable too.

cheers

Hey Tim,

Got a chuckle when you posted the pic of the kit part,  I don't remember that this started as a kit. Just a scratch built masterpiece:D

Love it when you do a mockup.

Tim... you sure have been a busy bee since I was last here. Man I can' belive the parts you are turning out. Some gorgeous work so far. Looks like the finger is all healed up from your surgery. AND I am ready for some more updates. Everything is so precise and perfect. Keep up the great work, looking forward to more.

Thank you Randy & Chris.  Chris, the finger isn't where I would expect by now.  Still a bunch of swelling and occasional discomfort but I did make some reasonable progress on the steering.

For those of you that have not seen Randy's GT40 lately, go the WIP on the forum and check it out.  This guy is crazy and therefore his work can be described as certifiably insane.  I'm sure you're glad that Ford didn't put a V12 in that car instead of the V8......:D

This 1st pic was a recent pic of the car mocked up wherein I dropped the front a further 1.4mm.  Doesn't sound like a lot but it got me right at the 3.0mm height at the front that I wanted.  It's very close to The Tramp now and it's profile.

I chromed the box and will get onto the steering wheel next. I'll be using a Futurattraction wheel with burl maple wood grips.  In the various pics you can see some of the additional brackets, braces and tabs that have been added too.  Can't wait to get onto the rear hubs and brakes at this point.

DSC 0003

In this pic you can see a scribe that I used to point out the bolts that hold the removable brace for the steering box.  .5mm bolts hold it in place.

DSC 0013

The amount of time spent making & affixing the 2 silly brackets that support the box is not to be believed.  I won't tell as it's embarrassing but yesterday alone took me an entire morning making just ONE.  The 1st was the wrong size, the 2nd I dropped on the floor and lost, the 3rd was not tall enough and the last one was good to go AND I didn't lose it.  Sheesh right?  I don't know how Randy does it.

Eeegaaaddzz Tim, that is beautiful. I can tell you all about the carpet monster that sucks up everything that drops. I have one of those here at my house too. Of course there isn't a magnet for brass.  :-)

o.k..... NOW YOU"VE DONE IT!!!!!!!!  you broke my eyes!!!!  just beyond outstanding tim!!!  can't wait to see the hubs and brakes.

Tim... you are the man!!! Wow that is some impressive work on the steering gearbox and mount. Between you and Randy D's work you are putting my funny car work to shame. I will tell you the same thing I told Randy... Makes me feel I need to box up my funny car and start collection rocks... LOL . I am so  Impressed with the work you are doing and how precise everything is. Gorgeous work of Art. Keep up the great work. Cheers!! I am with Dave I can't wait to see the hubs and brake set up you are going to fab up.

Got a real chuckle Brad from the "no magnet for brass"..........and it's what I asked Santa for no less...........

Thanks Bob, I hadn't thought of that, guess I gotta tear it off and start over........tee-hee

Dave, thanks man.........you can expect a question or 2 about the brakes discs........everything else I think I have figured out..........;)

Appreciated John!!   Where can I find your next WIP btw....?   I never know what you'll build next.

As always Chris, thanks for checking in on the progress.  I appreciate your eye for the details and what I'm working towards.  I REALLY have to move up to 1/12th once I get the Pro Mod replacement done for the Henry. That will be my last 1/25th car for me.  I'm going to do one with Dave but I don't want to say more about that just yet.    Got a solid plan for the coming week and expect some really decent progress.

Cheers to all, tim

First up, I love a lot the mock-up. The stance screams Evil Genius In Charge.

Sorry you didn't get a brass magnet for Christmas. I asked myself for a lathe and it didn't materialise either.

I'll settle for a different kind of present, anticipating details on your collaboration with another well established Evil Genius.

It should be something subtle and understated. Like a rear engine sidewinder Gremlin Long Nose Funny Car.

Subtle.

Tim... you are welcome my friend.... Do I hear any 1/16th builds coming our way. Holy Cow what you are doing in 1/25th I can only Imagine what you would be able to do in 1/12th Scale. I can't wait until you can reveal that special project with us. I am already looking forward to it.

psst.... to see John's WIP you need to head over to the all the rest section.... ;).

Tim,  a lot of people assume that larger scales are easier because the parts are bigger.   I learned years ago that this is a myth of modeling.  I my view, it actually makes it harder.  At 1:12 scale you must have much more detail and it must be right or it looks odd.  In the smaller scales you can actually get away with eliminated some small details.  For instance, at 1:12 scale you need to consider safety wiring nuts and bolts, cotter pins on castellated nuts and adding crimped fittings to the ends of wire.  Gage faces need to be legible.  Switches that you could get away with a piece of wire and a washer, now need to be round on the end and tapered with a knurled washer. Bolt heads need to have the slight taper at the edges, and on and on.

Granted as our eyes age and we can't see as well, we think that it would be easier but it really isn't.  Good luck and I look forward to your future builds.  This one has been spectacular!  Keep it up.

Joe, gonna let you in on a little insight on the depravity of my mind.......and why I take so many pics.  I was staring at the mock-up pic and I realized I have to get the steering control arm through the firewall. If you stare at it you'll realize, like I did, oh......that's a problem if I want it too look cool.  So I spent probably an hour today figuring out how to address that one component when I get there. But I assure you, it will be a pretty cool solution that I've come up with.......sorry, I digress as this build came with no instructions and sometimes these things just kinda crop up right?

Chris, thanks for the clue on where to find John..............he's a madman ;)

I hear ya' Pete.  I've decided to move up in the future to 1/12 scale as it's a nice compliment to my skill set I believe.  Notice I don't want to jump up to 1/8th.  I've seen Dave's cars in person and can't comprehend what it takes to build like that.  I'll just sneak up on it I figure.

Tyrone, thanks dude for following this one still.  I AM making progress I promsise.  My "punch-list" on the build is most certainly getting smaller and I can see daylight.  It WILL be done sometime 2017 so I can get start the Pro Mod replacement.    Cheers everyone and GO Steelers!!!!!!!!!!

Very impressive metal work Tim.

I just spent an enjoyable Sunday evening going through this thread.

Thanks for sharing your work Tim!

Tim...Looks fantastic!  I can relate to the drop and be gone for ever thing....After removing the carpet in my hobby room and installing wood flooring it is a tab easier to find things.....and you can HEAR them hit the floor and weather or not they bounce...lol  But so far my best tint parts magnets have been the 3year twin grand daughters....they are lower to the ground...have better eyes and there is 2 of them and they love to help...doing anything I am doing!

Look forward to seeing the upcoming brake segment!

Completed the steering wheel assembly & did the clutch pedal & added the inspection plate to it.   Just some of the tedious stuff I've been messing with.  The steering wheel is from Futurattraction.  I wanted to do it with wood grips but after 5 hours of messing with it, threw in the towel.  I did drill out the grips that come with the kit for a bit more of cool factor & added micro rivets to hold them in place.   The instrument pod has the oil pressure gauge, kill switch and thanks to John Teresi, I spent 45 minutes adding a retention strap on the back of the oil gauge.  The kill switch will be wired upon final assembly.  Cheers fellas!

DSC 0001

The steering column is not permanently affixed yet for ease of mock-up and to make final assembly easier as an fyi.

DSC 0013

The trans is a lenco but it's a CS3, I've got to get a CS 1 for it to be accurate.  Too many minutes making that silly upper support bracket that you can just make out in this pic.

Everything you do and post pictures of is over the top. Incredible update. Just keeps getting better and better. John's pulled that on me a time or two.

Tim... All I can say is WOW!! Very Impressive. It's great to see an update from you on this. Love how the steering wheel set up turned out and the Clutch pedal and linkage set up just sets it apart. Gorgeous work my friend!
