bbowser Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 "Introduced in 1930 to replace the sixth series Speedster of 1928, the Boattail and Phaeton were the most popular. Powered by a high-performance in-line eight cylinder engine displacing 384 cubic inches, the Packard could easily move along at a brisk 100 mph." (from the instruction sheet) I really enjoyed building this classic. The engine and chassis are well detailed and it's just a cool body style. Comments welcome as always, thanks for looking!
wayne swayze Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 I love these old classics! I built one of these myself and found a few parts to bo "off register". But it's a nice kit. Nice job!
CometMan Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Well done, Bruce! Don't see too many of those built anymore!
Harry P. Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Another beauty from you, Bruce. Always love to see the classics get their due. A couple of suggestions, though... hit the top with some Dullcote. It's too shiny. Also I think the wheels would really benefit from a black wash.
Silver Foxx Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 This is a great looking build , like the colours , well done .
tim boyd Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Very, very sharp. Love those old Monogram Classic kits! And your model fully does them justice...TIM
charlie8575 Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I like those colors. What are they?Charlie Larkin
landman Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Beautiful . Classy looking model of a classy auto.
MrBuick Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Very cool build. I've always like Packards...my Grandpa has been restoring a '47 Clipper Custom for about 10 years...it's getting close to being done.
Dragline Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Great build. I built this a while back and I must say that these old Monogram kits are just the best.
landman Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Very cool build. I've always like Packards...my Grandpa has been restoring a '47 Clipper Custom for about 10 years...it's getting close to being done. Your grandpa will have one outstanding machine. The Custom Super Clipper whas the ultimate road car back then, comfort, power, style and above all...smoothness.
bbowser Posted April 22, 2016 Author Posted April 22, 2016 I like those colors. What are they? Charlie Larkin Thanks to everyone for the kind words. The fenders are Hunter Green and the body is Rustoleum Gloss Fern. Another beauty from you, Bruce. Always love to see the classics get their due. A couple of suggestions, though... hit the top with some Dullcote. It's too shiny. Also I think the wheels would really benefit from a black wash. Thanks Harry. The owner uses a lot of "armour all" . I agree about the wheels, I'll hit them with some dirt.
Mercelo Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Very nice build. Yes the boys are right, you don't see many of these old classics on model forums these days, and your's is a beauty indeed. The engine looks very authentic, and that steering shaft pops right out at ya... The wood grain on the dash looks brilliant to. They sure were a big, long car weren't they. I built the '31 Rolls Royce Phaeton a few years ago, and l found it a particularity challenging build. It was just so different compared to a full bodied car. How about you, did you find this model challenged your thought process a little bit? Excellent build once again.
Dann Tier Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 VERY, VERY Classy!!, love the whole car, AND the painted wooden dash!!
