Plastheniker Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Hi, IMO the California is one of the most attractive Ferraris ever. Its unobtrusive design seems to be really timeless. When Italeri released its kit in 1989 I built it immediately. The only shortcoming I found were the same unrealistic wide wheels that all Italeri Ferrari kits had. I reduced the width of the tires and laced my own wire wheels. I added raised side windows because IMO they completed the clean lines of the car. Some time ago Academy re-released this kit with better tires but still with plastic wires. As far as I know Academy removed all Ferrari emblems and logos due to license problems.
Lizard Racing Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Guten Tag!You obviously put a lot of work into this project. A classy car and a clean build. Good work.
Harry P. Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Beautifully done! But I have to disagree on the side windows. They look awkward. IMO top down, windows down!
Plastheniker Posted May 5, 2016 Author Posted May 5, 2016 Beautifully done! But I have to disagree on the side windows. They look awkward. IMO top down, windows down! Harry, as soon as I own a 1:1 California I will follow your advice - I promise.
BVC500 Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 You did a beautiful job. My problem with this kit is that Italeri failed to capture the correct shape of the front fenders and omitted the very fine crease that runs a top the fenders. The Renaissance resin version has a better body.
Dann Tier Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Another beautiful build!, I see that like me, you went for a different color -it looks great!!
kelson Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 What a beauty!do remember the color you used?it really compliments the lines of the car.
Matt Bacon Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Another lovely job, as always, Jurgen. Looks like some kind of "Rosso Brunello Metallizzato" to me....If anyone reading is inspired by this inspirational build, you just need to search an auction site for "Academy Classic European Sports Car" and buy one from Korea for about $25. The prancing horse is still on the grille, but there are no Ferrari emblems among the decals.bestest,M.
Xingu Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Beautifully executed. I cannot imagine the work that went into the wheels. If you were to own a 1:1 Ferrari, this would be the one to have.
Chuckyg1 Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 I really like this build. The wire wheels are awsome. Very clean build & attention to detail.
GTJUNIOR Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Beautiful, well executed build of arguably one of the most beautiful cars of all time. Anyone remember Ferris Bullers day off!
MrObsessive Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Beautiful, well executed build of arguably one of the most beautiful cars of all time. Anyone remember Ferris Bullers day off! Yup! I believe that car was supposed to be a '61. Jürgen, that is one beautiful Ferrari! It's one of my all-time favorite ones, and I believe also that this is one of Ferrari's best designs ever. FANTASTIC job on the wheels! I have the Testor's reissue, as well as the V-12 engine kit from Norm-------the wheels and tires are the biggest letdowns in the kit though. I don't think I'll go as fancy as you in lacing my own however! I'll probably just settle for a set of PE ones, and call it a day. And yes, your model looks great with the windows up...........I'm just a windows roll-up kinda guy though!
peekay Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Beautiful work as always Jürgen, love the colour and the interior looks very tasty too. And I agree, one of the best looking Ferraris ever.As Matt says, the Academy kit from Korea for $25 with free int. postage is the way to go if anybody wants one. Get some scripts and badges from Global Toy in China and you're all set.
Crazy Ed Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Joining in on the Chior. That Color looks "Right" on that car, and the detailing is looks spot on.
Harry P. Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Harry, as soon as I own a 1:1 California I will follow your advice - I promise.
