Snake45 Posted May 11, 2016 Author Posted May 11, 2016 Wow.................these ALL are great builds! Not sure "great" is exactly the correct word for many of these, especially mine, BUT they are part of our history, both individually and as a hobby, and thus are important, interesting, and very, very cool!
Tom Geiger Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 A few more that are safely tucked in my display case...
Russell C Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 (edited) One of my truck survivors from 1980 is seen when you scroll down just a bit in this older post. Meanwhile, here is my solitary car survivor, probably from '79 or '80, since that was when I was using Duplicolor metalflake. I don't remember deliberately choosing the color from seeing full size versions, but that turns out to be roughly a factory color. Revell yellow-molded Carrera with a bit of modding to make it just a street version. Edited May 11, 2016 by Russell C
Old Nasty Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 (edited) I have no idea when these were built, or by whom. I got them in a bunch of built-ups, parts and just plain junk. They're both curbsides, and the work under them is pretty crude. Love those fat fendered Fords. Edited May 11, 2016 by Old Nasty
pack rat Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Very VERY cool stuff, guys! Keep 'em coming! Here's a couple more of mine: Oohh,,,,I love this one! Here's it's cousin...built in the early '70's from the AMT-boxed issue (originally had different mags though; I added these ones a couple of years ago)
TooOld Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 I forgot about this one . I built it in 1977 and packed it away really well for 35 years . When I unboxed it a couple of years ago it looked just like the day I built it !

dragcarz Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 That before 1981 rule really limits me as I like so many others, when I got my first car, I gave all my model stuff to the kid next door. The only model I kept was the Don Garlets SR1. For some reason I kept this built model. I purchased it new at Woolworth in probably 1971 right after it came out. I still have the box and instructions. I did restore the kit in 1987, somewhere along the way the rear wing came up missing, but that was ok as the earliest version of the dragster didn't have the wing.I want to build a second version with the wing, but haven't got there as yet. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Snake45 Posted May 13, 2016 Author Posted May 13, 2016 Very nice! Minor restoration is okay in this thread, as long as the model appears substantially as it did pre-1981 (original paint), and looks like your Garlits digger qualifies.
Snake45 Posted May 15, 2016 Author Posted May 15, 2016 (edited) I didn't build this MPC '66 Vette, but aside from the purple color, it looks like something I could have built around 1967, maybe '68. Got it in an ePay lot with something else that I really wanted. My first thought was to restore the poor thing to factory stock--MPC pre-'67 Sting Rays are somewhat rare these days--but the more I've looked at it, the more it grows on me. The paint is actually in MUCH better shape than it looks like in the pics, and it might respond well to a light polishing. I think I'm just gonna clean the thing up, do some touch-up here and there, and let it stand as a "period piece" survivor tribute to its builder, whom I'd bet was a kid a lot like me. Snake45 Posted May 15, 2016 Author Posted May 15, 2016 I didn't build this MPC '67 GTO either. Bought it for $15 at a 2002 IPMS Regional meet, an 80% airplane event. Only bought it because I spotted it as an original annual '67, not one of the many horrid reissues. Notice how straight and wonderful the body is! Will make you want to cry if you've ever worked with one of the backbirth repops. This one walks a fine line between Glue Bomb and Survivor, because I'm planning to completely rebuild it. (Just the opposite of the 66 Vette above, the paint looks much better in the pic than in real life.) So it's really more of a Glue Bomb, although at the moment it's still a Survivior, exactly as I bought it. I already have a red '67 GTO, but am thinking of painting this one's ultra-straight body Black, just to show off.
Lordmodelbuilder Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 Here's a couple more survivors. These are part of a friends dads collection that I now have. Original MPC 1966 GTO and AMT 1957. Both built in the 60's.
sjordan2 Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 My 1:12 Bentley looks the same today as when I built it in 1973.
Don Sikora II Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 I didn't build either of these, but thought I'd share a couple quick snapshots of these vintage Corvette builds. The orange one is a MPC '64 that looks to be built out of the box. The blue one is an AMT '65 with a (mostly) straight front axle (maybe from the AMT '34 Ford pick up) and a blown small-block Chevy with thread wiring. Think the builder did a really nice job on the modifications.
Snake45 Posted May 18, 2016 Author Posted May 18, 2016 Wow, that blue '65 Vette is nice. I'd like to end up with something along those lines with that purple MPC '66 I posted above, after I restore it a little.
Nova-ss Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Here is my Monogram Boothill express.there are a few others I'll try to find them...Chris
disabled modeler Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Tom... I love the 69s.....we use to own a couple....69 SS HT and a 69 wagon.
AzTom Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 This is a great thread. Nice to see so many builders keep the nostalgia of these old kits. Here are a few I built late 69 early 70's. I still have the boxes and extra parts as well. The only thing I had to do a few years ago when they were unpacked is glue a few bumpers back on and clean them up some. Theses two were made a team and has a tow bar to connect them.

Think the builder did a really nice job on the modifications. The more I look at this one, the more I like it. It looks like a genuine full-scale "barn find" racer from the '60s. As I mentioned, I planning to freshen up that purple MPC '66 posted above soon. Your picture has given me a good idea of what sort of look I want to go for with it.
Aaron_F Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 (edited) 1960 Chevy and Ford annual kits. I bought these on Ebay recently. Edited May 21, 2016 by Aaron_F
