I ordered some parts from Hobby Link on 6/3 and according to my email confirmation hey won't get shipped until 6/8. Is it normal for them to sit on an order for 5 days before they ship ?

Is this Hobby Link Japan? I've never dealt with them but I have lots of friends in Model Airplane World who have, and I can't recall ever hearing a complaint of any kind about them.

Those of us who are old enough to remember ordering from Auto World in the '60s wouldn't even think about complaining about a five-day shipping delay....B)

Not sure if it is Japan or not. The we site doesn't seem to say. If it is that could be the reason for the slow start. I have ordered stuff from China and it can take from a week to months to get (sometimes never).

Todays update status says it was received by USPS and gave a tracking number.

Are you talking Hobbylinc or Hobby Link Japan. I have never experienced any delays from  any retailer in Japan, unless it is backordered. 99% of orders I place from Japan were shipped within the hour, if placed during office hours.. that fast.

I have no experience with Hobbylinc

Must be talking about Hobbylinc, which is in Georgia.... Hobby Link Japan says 'Hobby Link Japan' on their site in big letters...about the only time I've had delays with Hobby Link Japan is when Japanese holidays are going on.

Also, that isn't 5 business days...only 3 (Fri/Mon/Tues).

The orders I've had with the Georgia HobbyLinc site all had waits of varying lengths.  With the glut of sites available for parts/paint/etc, and all being roughly the same price, I've moved on to others that seem to have what I need on-hand and ship same or next day.  Works for me to buy elsewhere, and I'm sure Hobbylinc hasn't missed my business.  This isn't meant to be a big criticism because their site is actually quite nice to use and their prices are in line with others.

I think hobbylinc only ships on certain days because I had to wait a significant amount of time for my order too (back like 6 months ago when I ordered from them)

I've ordered kits from HobbyLinc in Atlanta several times and yes they do usually have a delay of 2-4 days before shipping , even for in stock items .  I'm not complaining because they also have the best prices !

I have ordered several times from hobbylinc-atlanta, usually 3-4 days before they even pull the order an ship. Aggravating at times, but then on the other hand its alot shorter than waiting on some resin parts.

As a general rule, retailers that ship more than a day or two after getting your order don't actually stock the items you're ordering. Sites like MegaHobby, Sprue Brothers, Squadron, etc., they all have the items in stock and ready to ship. Most other sites show what they are able to get, and then after you order it they then order it from their distributor. So that wait time is the amount of time it takes the retailer to actually obtain the item you've already paid for.

Hobbylinc keeps the stuff in stock, but they only pull orders from their warehouse on certain days to keep Overhead down (fewer staff = cheaper stuff for their customers). It used to bother me a bit because the order would just be pending for days, but I just don't order from them unless I can wait a few weeks. It's way better now than it used to be...they used to only offer shipping through Fed-Ex Smart Post, which is the slowest and worst shipping on the planet...now you can choose the shipping method, so things arrive much quicker. I usually get my items within 7-10 days, which really isn't unreasonable.
