geetee66 Posted January 14, 2017 Author Posted January 14, 2017 I've done a bit more on CHOPT. I decided to leave the chassis alone and not get bogged-down by a major rebuild. I've added a spacer to the rear wheel well. The kit originally had a motor and I presume the gap was for cogs to drive the wheels. %5BURL=http://s173.photobucket.com/user/geetee66/media/95B24FF4-78E5-4769-9059-E0C5339CD7FB_zpsoxp49fqx.jpg.html] I had to cut away some of the cab floor, for the transmission %5BURL=http://s173.photobucket.com/user/geetee66/media/59FA1100-C73B-4B5A-87BD-6C39F3927C00_zpsqqm0x0fg.jpg.html] ....Which gets covered by the centre console %5BURL=http://s173.photobucket.com/user/geetee66/media/0E48FDD8-AAAB-4E10-8C86-FBA7F16846A3_zpsdnh1ltxv.jpg.html] The engine took a bit of work to get it seated correctly. As all my builds go into display boxes and the belly is rarely seen, the engine will only really be visible via the hood. Now I've cut clearance for the headers, I think I'll use lead solder to make side-exit pipes in the front wheel arches. %5BURL=http://s173.photobucket.com/user/geetee66/media/04081469-0A4F-4719-9D88-974FE55F3BC8_zpsn0uzy8cc.jpg.html] ...and the back of the radiator needed removing to fit the pulleys and fan. More Dremel.. %5BURL=http://s173.photobucket.com/user/geetee66/media/B41A2271-03C0-40AC-943A-B5FD9BC274EF_zpsprgsrrrz.jpg.html] thanks for looking comments/advice/criticism welcome
geetee66 Posted January 14, 2017 Author Posted January 14, 2017 I think I've got it all straight now. The Matt black is quite effective at showing up surface problems %5BURL=http://s173.photobucket.com/user/geetee66/media/D66A6BBE-F84A-435D-BF3B-8A8361F1C2CA_zpsc8c8th6q.jpg.html] after a bit of axle tweaking, I've found the ride height. Low, but 'driveable'. %5BURL=http://s173.photobucket.com/user/geetee66/media/C8C59A34-1296-4B17-AC85-976F9990F8F8_zpsyoajjxfq.jpg.html] %5BURL=http://s173.photobucket.com/user/geetee66/media/80D237F7-CB0B-4C0D-8AFC-629629B83E8F_zpssxwsivmv.jpg.html] The headlamps blended-in nicely. I moved the indicators outwards, to line-up with the headlamp centres. thanks for looking

espo Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 Glad to see you're back after this one. Great build.
geetee66 Posted January 19, 2017 Author Posted January 19, 2017 I had to get on and finish the engine, so I could install it and begin work on the exhaust. %5BURL=http://s173.photobucket.com/user/geetee66/media/7575BCE9-F2A4-43AD-8927-62270D86E8DF_zpsbhqlsv7w.jpg.html] Here's another shot %5BURL=http://s173.photobucket.com/user/geetee66/media/056F8B5F-ABED-42C4-A26B-9E57E2BF6565_zpspmmgagst.jpg.html] Got a hood scoop made. Davewilly Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Looking pretty Good! I like what your doing with it....almost makes me want a 1:1 and do what you are doing to it!
geetee66 Posted January 19, 2017 Author Posted January 19, 2017 Looking pretty Good! I like what your doing with it....almost makes me want a 1:1 and do what you are doing to it!cheers Davethe guy who owns the 1:1 used this kit as a mockup. I've only seen his car online or anywhere else.He might have the only 1:1 in existence, I'm not sure.It certainly is a rare beast!
bobthehobbyguy Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Love it. Nice job on a difficult chop. Cool project.
Intmd8r Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 British cars are not my cup 'o tea (), but nice work on the chop! Your posts make this look easy...
Dave Van Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 You took on a Mans job with that top chop....well done!
DeeCee Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 This will look great once you get it all sorted.
Dann Tier Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 That's definitely a TON of work, but its looking fantastic!!! -I love the look, stance, and wheel choice -it all flows extremely well!!! Q: Ever thought of putting an AIR GRABBER decal on the sides of the hood scoop?
misterNNL Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 I love this thread! This is without a doubt the first four door chop most of us have ever seen. The side profile reminds me or a Chevy HHR article I saw and copied about a choppd HHR Bonneville LSR vehicle.I like the grounded stance,it compliments the overall"Frankencab" look.Tanks for sharing.
geetee66 Posted January 20, 2017 Author Posted January 20, 2017 (edited) Thanks guys. I'm glad you find this interesting. I've really enjoyed this build. Got the interior assembled. I tried PVA white glue for the flocking. It worked on my last build. But not this one. So I rinsed it off, dried it and used double sided tape. Pleased with the results. Then added the seats, etc. %5BURL=http://s173.photobucket.com/user/geetee66/media/E7C09C67-488B-49A8-A0F4-9C6B3C66F1C4_zpsgade0m5x.jpg.html] %5BURL=http://s173.photobucket.com/user/geetee66/media/6D0A4296-6713-485D-9572-8722EA371D69_zpsagpl6yba.jpg.html] %5BURL=http://s173.photobucket.com/user/geetee66/media/FAE8116A-A97A-4AC1-922F-8AAFE06D6615_zpsoqakufg1.jpg.html] thanks for looking Edited January 20, 2017 by geetee66
bobthehobbyguy Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 The carpeting looks great. Great idea.
geetee66 Posted January 31, 2017 Author Posted January 31, 2017 (edited) A quick update: I fitted the tail lights. They're from the AMT '49 Merc. I keep the chrome tree in it's bag, until I need parts, then put it back in the bag. Saves getting fingerprints and rub marks on it. The chrome in this kit was very good, as you can see. The license plate is self adhesive vinyl. Got it from a model boat store, online. The water slide decal kit for U.K. plates is currently unobtainable on this planet. I think they would be easier to use than these vinyl ones. %5BURL=http://s173.photobucket.com/user/geetee66/media/39425DDC-F2EC-4A0D-A633-53DEEEC41DF3_zps4wqmzud6.jpg.html] I've got to add the wipers and check it over, before I do a glamour shoot and put it under glass. thanks for looking Edited January 31, 2017 by geetee66
Lunajammer Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 An inspired (inspiring?) build you've got going here. Certainly sets a dude's mind a-whirlin'. The kind of stuff I like to see on show tables.
Lowlife ! ! Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Great job on CHOPT, looks just like the real thing ! Your have to show the builder of the real one, bet he would love this !
geetee66 Posted February 1, 2017 Author Posted February 1, 2017 Thankyou for all the encouragement and interest, guys. This has been an educational build for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's nowhere near perfect, but I made a mental note of the areas I could improve on. Just in case anyone else tries to foil onto matt paint: What I'd do next time, is to either gloss, or polish the areas to be foiled. BMF onto matt paint doesn't stick well, nor does it rub smooth. A coat of clear gloss should do the trick, as it would provide a smooth surface. CHOPT is now 'Under Glass'
