FordRodnKustom Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 Just finished this one up today. I like these kinds of builds, especially as a slump buster as this one was. During my research journey I found that the original kit number decals were not like the box art at all, wrong color and bigger. There are some rare original sheets out there that are like the art but I could not get one so I found a rare reverse color original issue AMT '40 Ford coupe number set that I thought looked just right. The build was not without problems but overall it was fun and I like the final result. It looks cool on the shelf with my other vintage box art builds. Thanks for checking it out. Comments, questions and discussion always welcome. 3
AC Norton Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 outstanding, Ron, as we always see from any of your builds.....perfect......the Ace.....
bbowser Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 Great work! I really like the PLA paint jars and the old time glue tube. I remember when those were all we had.
Daddyfink Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 Now that looks like a very fun build! Box art builds, especially vintage ones, are some of my favorite builds. Great job!
tbill Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 that is pretty sweet, i really like the whole theme.
carrucha Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 Good job on the box art model. The old Testors glue and paint bottles are a nice touch.
espo Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 I think you nailed that sedan. The color is perfect and it looks like the box art was based on your build. That kit was about the second or third model I ever built and have always liked it.
Pete L. Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Ron, Really nice job, I still get a kick out of old box art builds !
D. Battista Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 I too am a big fan of box art builds...Awesome job..!! I like the display too....
Bernard Kron Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Ron, you've mastered this style as few have ever done. You always nail both the detail and the "flavor" of the Box Art. The immaculate execution adds focus and clarity to the final product.
ChrisBcritter Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Great match! Was the paint a custom mix, and what did you use?
FordRodnKustom Posted January 1, 2017 Author Posted January 1, 2017 Thanks everyone! I really appreciate your comments. I know this kind of thing isn't everyone's cup o tea but it is mine and I enjoy doing these old box art builds. Stay tuned....there will be more!
FordRodnKustom Posted January 1, 2017 Author Posted January 1, 2017 Great match! Was the paint a custom mix, and what did you use? Thanks Chris- I used good ole Testors enamel, decanted and airbrushed,
Cpt Tuttle Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Nice capture of the box art, very well done.
TooOld Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 There it is ! Another great one Ron , you hit it out of the park this time !
DumpyDan Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Love it looks so good, i forgot how good that 40 can look.
Lovefordgalaxie Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 I like that a lot. So cool. I would had used a flathead mill, but I guess that would deviate from the box art theme.
bobthehobbyguy Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Love that old box art. You did a really nice job. The actual model on the box doesn't have the same cool factor.
