Ramfins59 Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Steven, I wish you and your wife the very best of everything with your move. I'm sure that once you get settled in to a new home, you'll find that being home really won't be all that boring. I've been retired for about 5 years now and it's amazing how fast the time goes by during the day. My wife still works, and I am kept very busy with laundry, kitchen and floor cleanup, trash duty, dusting and occasional cooking. I even find time to work on models once in a while...
donb Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Gorgeous, Gorgeous, Gorgeous car! And best of luck with the move. I retired at 54 too. A least for a year :). Went back to work as a contractor for anther 6. really retired a month before 60th birthday and not going back!
gtx6970 Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Thanks guys! No such luck Bill, unless you consider North Dakota a warmer climate! My wife was getting frustrated with the Mayo Clinic. She has been a nurse there for 30 years & has always been looking to improve herself. Just a few years ago she received her doctorate in nursing thinking that it may help with her ambition of moving up from her nurse managers position. She was getting really tired of all of the headaches that go along with that position & she seemed to hit a brick wall in the advancement department. So she decided to take advantage of Mayo's 30 year retirement plan & retire. She's only 52 years old so we knew that she was too young & financially it was a little too early for full retirement, so she began looking for new employment opportunities. She found one in the Roger Maris cancer center in Fargo North Dakota, part of the Sanford Health system, where she will be a supervisor of nursing. She actually starts her new job on Monday. So until we do the house swap & move, we will be living apart during the week for at least a month. I'm going to keep working until the 1st of May & then I'll be focusing all of my attention on the move. The bad news is, even though her new position is a step up, she will be taking a reduction in pay compared to her old job, at least initially. The good news is, if we can manage it financially, I may not have to take a new job after the move! It would be glorious to be able to retire at 54! But, as she says, "you'll get bored" so I'll probably wind up having to look for something. But, as we all know, it gets a little more difficult to find a decent job as we get older, & in my case, not having much in the "marketable skills" department. Anyway, that's the scoop. Wish me well! Steve Sounds like a good idea. And I have to agree with her. I am 'semi-retired ' meaning I work from home in the winter. Currently doing a full blown ground up restoration on a 1968 Charger RT for a client . Summers I work at CVG Airport here locally. Airfield and grounds maintenance, We take care of the entire grounds which is 7000 acres ( not a typo ) includes landscaping , grass, trees, fencing , etc etc etc . We are planning a cross country move to southern AZ in the next 16-18 months. So I got a pretty good idea what your dealing with . We are actually looking for acreage and/or investment property out there now. My wife's sister moved there 15 years ago, and her mom out there last summer . I certainly wish you the best on your forthcoming adventure .
Ron Hamilton Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Steve,The build is beautiful, as usual. I truly wish you and your wife well on this new adventure. Your builds have made me step up my game, and I thank you for it. Keep in touch.
1972coronet Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Another outrageous Poncho ! Good lord that is beautiful !Fantastic work , Steve !
Phirewriter Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 All the best on you and yours new life adventure! That is one beautiful Pontiac! The only one in my collection is a MIB. This is one of those builds that makes me consider building some of my mint vintage kits. I've been on look out for this and a few other rebuilders at shows (I no longer do eBay unless absolutely necessary) but much on my glue bomb list rarely shows up.
Curt Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Beautiful work, as usual, Steve! That black with the blue reminds me that once upon a time there were many colors and combinations available, not like today. Good luck with the move and don't forget that even if you can't build for a while you can hang out here and plan your next projects. I know I enjoy the research and planning almost as much as the building, and I'm a lot quicker at it.I'll look forward to your next one when you're able to resume...

StevenGuthmiller Posted April 1, 2017 Author Posted April 1, 2017 Thanks everyone! Good luck with the move and don't forget that even if you can't build for a while you can hang out here and plan your next projects. I'll look forward to your next one when you're able to resume... Thanks Curt! I'm not planning on going anywhere in that respect! I will definitely at least be "lurking". I worry sometimes because the last time we moved back in 2001 it was the beginning of a long 10 year hiatus! I don't want that to happen again & I know that just the fact that I have the support of a lot of new friends on the forum will be an inspiration to keep me going. That & the fact that I have a whole shop full of vintage kits that I'm just itching to build! All of the great comments that I receive every time I post a new build are a huge motivation to me & I thank you all immensely! Steve
moparfarmer Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Steven sorry to hear you are moving but Fargo is a real nice city..Its close to Winnipeg where Rod and Dennis and I come from (3 hours) Its got a good hobby shop and fantastic shopping and good restaurants...Its a little colder than the cities but still nice..They didn't have any snow this year If you like roundy round racing they have a 3/8 mile dirt in West Fargo Fairground and the best 1/3 mile track is about an hour north in Grand Forks..Great racing there every Friday night..After you've moved we'll have to exchange #s and keep in touch..Hope maybe you'll be at NNL North this year too..Good luck and hope you enjoy Fargo..

Thanks Wayne! My wife, son & daughter were all in the Fargo area today looking at houses. Seems we may have already found one. We plan on making an offer tomorrow. It's in a small town about 20 miles east of Fargo/Moorhead called Hawley Minnesota. It's a pretty nice 1400 square foot walkout rambler built in 2003. The selling point for me was the 3 stall attached "heated" garage plus another 1 1/2 stall garage in the back yard! Plenty of room for all of the toys! It's nice to hear that Fargo has a decent hobby shop! We haven't had a good one in Rochester for probably 15 years. I chuckle a little when I think of the one hobby shop that there is in town called "Everything Hobby". Yeah right, as long as "everything" includes nothing but radio controlled stuff!! I think they might have 25 kits in the store & virtually no supplies. Hobby Lobby has a much more extensive selection. I was hoping to make the NNL this year again, but it's beginning to look like it will most likely fall right smack in the middle of all of the turmoil of the move, but it is in the back of my mind, just in case. Steve

Helix Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Nicely done Steve, I was wondering when you were going to build yours after my '63 convertible......worth the wait and well done mate!Good luck with the changes in circumstances, something I'm going through at the moment, hence no ''under glass'' from me for the last 6 months!CheersRay
Geno Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Steve, that is an amazing build, your photos make it look like the real car.
MrObsessive Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Absolutely gorgeous as usual Steve! And now you've got me looking at a derelict '64 Bonneville that I've had lying around for years, but never did anything with it. Good luck on the move! I have to admit that's one of my top pet peeves----------having to relocate anywhere! Not one of my most favorite things in life for many reasons.
PARTSMARTY Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 I wish you both the very best-and the interior pics. of the 63 are absolutely perfect -holy cow !!!
bbowser Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Amazing build and outstanding photography! Good luck with your "real life" venture.
Scale Rodder Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Overall sharp work, paint job, details, pictures. First time i see good looking painted wires. Usually i cut molded wires off because painting is painfull.
StevenGuthmiller Posted April 1, 2017 Author Posted April 1, 2017 Just a few outdoor shots. A little sunlight helps accentuate the paint a bit. Steve
Greg Wann Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 That is very nice. I do have a mold that will make a decent resin body.
John Goschke Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 (edited) That is so beautiful, Steve! So perfect. I love the blackwash you used on the grills and moldings to make the detail pop – looks very crisp! Oh, and good luck with the move! Edited April 1, 2017 by John Goschke
Spex84 Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Well, that's just spectacular! The razor-sharp trim and perfect black paint make this one a stunner. Beautiful work. Good luck with the move
