RandyB. Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 Finished this one up a couple of weeks ago. Had to sand the chrome trim off the sides of the wheel wells and body sides to reflect an accurate representation of the W-30 option. Decided to go with a sleeper look. Oldsmobile hubcaps were ordered from Missing Link. I used Dupli-color Bright Blue metallic which didn't come as nice as I would have liked it to. which didn't come out as nice as I would have liked it to.
espo Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 Great looking build. Except for the Red Lines you would never suspect what was under the hood.
MrObsessive Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 Good job in correcting the kit's shortcomings Randy! That's always bugged me about the side trim on that one as I've never seen a W-30 with it. Oh! And you fixed the incorrect front bumper! Woefully lacking in the kit is the obligatory bumper "air ducts". I think this is an underrated kit (particularly the convertible sibling) as it's VERY detailed as it was done during the Mueller era, and I don't see many built be it the W-30, or the regular Cutlass. BTW, did Olds make a '66 W-30 convertible? I just got a modeling idea............. I need to rescue that '64 first though before I dig into that one!
Snake45 Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 Good clean build of an interesting subject, but Randy, I gotta say, I'm used to seeing smoother, shinier paint from you. What happened?

MrObsessive Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 (edited) Really?? 'Cuz I have this kit (1:1 red car on the box art), and mine has the standard bumper in it. Perhaps there was a running change later on and I got one of the early ones? EDIT: It's essentially a parts kit now as I used the chassis and engine in it to do the '64 442 which I never finished. I got the kit new and the regular bumper is still on the chrome tree however. Edited July 12, 2017 by MrObsessive
bogger44 Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 Excellent choice in using steelies & caps! I love that look. I feel for ya on the paint issue, as I've experienced the same thing on my current project. Decided to just make it look the best I can and go with it.

Both had the wrong front bumper. During a big Ollie's sale, I picked up 2 of the later kits shown in the OP, with the blue/white car on the box art. Those kits have the correct front bumper.
Dann Tier Posted July 15, 2017 Posted July 15, 2017 VERY cool!! I really like how clean the detail work is on your front grille, and rear chrome work!!, it can be pretty hard to do clean work on shiny chrome parts with reflections popping-out everywhere, but you did an outstanding job!! -great build!!
mrmike Posted July 15, 2017 Posted July 15, 2017 (edited) A subject you don't see too often and you did a great job on it! Edited July 16, 2017 by mrmike
