mrmike Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 On February 12, 2014 at 5:44 AM, a massive sinkhole opened up under the floor of the Skydome at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky. Eight Corvettes were swallowed up by the sinkhole and it took several weeks for all eight cars to be recovered. The last Corvette to be recovered was completely destroyed. It was a privately owned 2001 Z06 Corvette modified by a company called Mallett Cars, Inc. and was known as the Mallett Hammer. It was not an historic car, but still, it was a special one. My build was of the third Corvette to be recovered from the sinkhole...a Tuxedo Black 1962 Corvette with a red interior. I painted my Revell '62 Vette with Tamiya TS-14 Gloss Black with a Model Master Insignia Red interior. I built this Vette OOB since I was unable to find a dual carb setup which the actual Corvette has.
'70 Grande Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 A beautiful build! All of the details look spot-on! Nice work!
Hmann68 Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Beautiful! A red interior and black paint is always striking!
ChrisBcritter Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Sweet job, Mike! I've got to try one of these Vettes soon.
geetee66 Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 A sharp build! Very nice all-round and the interior is a knockout!
Classicgas Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Very nice, but the red background detracts from the model/ A white background would make it "pop".
mrmike Posted August 20, 2017 Author Posted August 20, 2017 Very nice, but the red background detracts from the model/ A white background would make it "pop".Thank you guys! Lee, the background is white, but my camera settings were off and tinted the background. I doubt I'll take new pictures.
KWT Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Dang, Mike... That is fanfreakintastic. Nice clean build like always.
mrmike Posted August 20, 2017 Author Posted August 20, 2017 Thank you Jeremy! Well, I decided to play around with the camera settings and take some new pictures. I'm not 100% happy with them, but the pictures don't have that burnt look to them.
Jon Cole Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 Your build is awesome. Your new photos are awesome.Basically, it's all awesome!
gasser59 Posted August 22, 2017 Posted August 22, 2017 That is a really sweet Vette. Nicely done. I find it a challenge to get great photos of a black car.
Allen Wrench Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 (edited) Very sharp! BTW, the Revell '58 and '59 Vette kits have the dual-carb setup. Edited August 24, 2017 by Allen Wrench
