berr13 Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 I stopped by my local San Antonio Hobby Lobby today, and found some great deals. There was a display of models near the model section, out in an aisle, that had some terrific markdowns. I bought two Revell '57 Ford Ranch Wagons for $8.99 each, a Revell '70 hemi Cuda for $10.07, and an MPC '67 Dodge Charger for $10.79. There were other car models included, like the MPC '60 Corvette, too. I got out of there with all four brand new kits for $42.04! I don't know if it was just a local deal, but it might be worth looking for at your closest HL.
TarheelRick Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 I stopped by my local HL this morning and they had a few marked down, the Surf Buggy, Soapy Sales F/C, and one other for $10.79, had the Lawman Plymouth for $14.99. Didn't buy any of them, cause I had stopped by Ollie's earlier and spent my budget. Seems the shelves were quite full of some newer releases.
iBorg Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 I'd went for the Soapy Sales but my local HL had Lawman for $14.99 and the Buddy Baker 1/16 Charger for $14.99. Cast met $75 for two Lawman and three Bakers.
Joe Handley Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 (edited) I ran into that at the Naperville, IL HL, picked up a '71 Charger and Surf Woody for myself and a first gen Blazer, Volare, another Charger and a couple other kits for the raffles the club I joined does. Between all of the discount kits, the Foose Caddy, and some batt-op LED Christmas lights for a Halloween project, I dropped around $100.........I had only intended to buy the lights and the Caddy, if this HL had it yet, but that didn't work out so well today........... Snake45 Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 No markdowns at mine, everything at regular price.
Daddyfink Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 The clearance stuff is all marked at $17.99 at my local HL
Tom Geiger Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 (edited) I went to HL about two weeks ago and they had that middle of the aisle sales kiosk with the marked down kits. I bought three 1970 Pontiacs for $14.99 each. They also had 6 Volares for that same price, and I thought to myself that nobody would want them so I'd circle back in a week and get them for less. I went back and they were gone! I don't know a single soul in my area that builds models and the stock at the local HL changes regularly.... including something as obscure as a 1980 Volare! espo Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 It seems as if Hobby Lobby is getting serious about getting rid of old stock. At least in this area they usually just mark them down 40%, no big wow there. But this last week they have gotten serious about it and offered some great deals. Even if you don't care for the model subject there is a ton of parts that can be used elsewhere. As others mentioned the "Lawman" Plymouth, it had been $39.99 locally and I just couldn't justify that much even though its is a very nice kit. I picked up 2 @ $14.39 each and a '70 Pontiac pick-up/open sportster for $10.79. I have several '57 Ford Wagons in the stash now, but I'm a real fan of that subject so next week I'm going back to get one of those.
gtx6970 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 Went in the local one yesterday. Left empty handed. Walked across the lot to Ollies.....same deal. Nothing worth buying.
espo Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 Michael's had a 50% off coupon on the phone over the weekend.
Snake45 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 Michael's had a 50% off coupon on the phone over the weekend. They have it in my Sunday paper most weeks, but they seldom have anything making it worthwhile.
berr13 Posted October 11, 2017 Author Posted October 11, 2017 (edited) Just an update...went to another HL today, and got a Revell '29 Ford Model A roadster kit for $10.07. THAT was a surprise! Also found a 1/16 Buddy Baker '73 Dodge Charger NASCAR racer for $14.75, and a Revell 1/12 2010 Shelby GT-500 Mustang for $27. Edited October 11, 2017 by berr13
High octane Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 I have a Hobby Lobby 1/2 mile from me but rarely visit it as I'm tryin' to build more and buy less. I usually support my LHS which is 10 miles away.
