mchook Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 I used an old AMT GTO kit & a 68 el camino running gear, interior & bed. Had to shorten up the chassis & floor to make it fit. It's not great but not too bad either.
#1 model citizen Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Very nice, especially the finish on the bed.
dave branson Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Awesome, very cool and looks like Pontiac missed out on something.
'70 Grande Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Nice concept and excellent execution! It looks like you really pulled-off the tailgate- conversion/integration too; sure would like to see a straight-on, rear-shot of it to see better how that tailgate looks!
carman1 Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 Very nice, I started doing one of these 30 some years ago and have never finished it.
Hmann68 Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 Very cool! Great paint and it looks well thought out and built!
bbowser Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 Very well done "phantom". GM might have missed the boat on this one.
BigTallDad Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 Very nice, especially the finish on the bed.I agree! What did you use for the "wood"? Paint, real wood, decal? Also, are there any interior shots?
landman Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 Awesome, very cool and looks like Pontiac missed out on something. X2
crazyjim Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 Looks like it could have come from the factory. Very nice.

It looks like you really pulled-off the tailgate- conversion/integration too; sure would like to see a straight-on, rear-shot of it to see better how that tailgate looks! Hi Mark, thanks. I just followed the trunk lines straight down & cut. If the tail lights look weird it's because I lost the ones from the kit & had to make new ones. I was going to make it open & close but I just wanted to get it finished, it has been sitting for years waiting to get done. Here's your pic...
espo Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 Great realistic looking conversion. You mentioned the wheel base had to be altered, in reality the '68 El Camino had a shorter wheel base than the '65 GTO.
mchook Posted October 29, 2017 Author Posted October 29, 2017 I agree! What did you use for the "wood"? Paint, real wood, decal? Also, are there any interior shots? Thanks guys, it's painted. I used some thinned Model Master "rust" paint, a black wash & some tamiya weathering powders. This was my first time trying to make wood look like wood with paint. Sorry I didn't get any interior pics, I was kinda rushing too finish it. It's all the parts from the 68 el camino interior painted black.
mchook Posted October 29, 2017 Author Posted October 29, 2017 Thank you to everyone for all the great compliments.
wayne swayze Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 That's really cool! Looks like a factory vehicle. Well done!
mchook Posted November 1, 2017 Author Posted November 1, 2017 Thanks again guys. I don't usually build nice models, I like to do weathered junk. That's why I really appreciate all the positive feedback on this one.
