That's cheaper than the one I bought as a Christmas present to myself..............Mine came with all the aftermarket detail parts so I ain't complainin'!

In the video the box art looks nicer than the one I got..........I'm not sure I want another one though as it's the same version. The version I REALLY wanted is the cycle fendered one like the car pictured in the link above. That one was just TOO expensive for my tastes, so I settled for the other one which suits me just fine! :D

Basically a Lotus 7 replica.

The kit replicates one of the first Caterham Super 7s, which at the time was a complete kit car as Lotus had been selling - with a more powerful Cosworth engine. They ran out of the Lotus supplied kits in the late 1970s after about 6 years and have been producing their own "replica" versions ever since.

Not exactly.

I've done business with Caterham, and in 1971 I bought what had been the Lotus factory 1962 London Auto Show car (a Lotus Super 7 S2/3).

Caterham bought the rights to produce the 7 after Lotus quit.

Caterham initially built S4 Sevens, much different in appearance from the S2/3 cars as kitted here.

When the S4 parts dried up, Caterham began building the S3 "replica", which is more accurately called a "continuation".

Cosworth engines were available in the Lotus-built cars, beginning with a hot-rod 1340cc pushrod engine, which my own car had. Other Cosworth power plants were available later while Lotus was still building the things.

From what I could find, the original was released in 200 and sold for about 150 dollars, the cycle wing was about 200-ish.

Don't hold your breath, but if they are releasing this one, you can bet on it that the cycle wings are going to be released as well. I am fortunate to have this one and the JPE, but I also would like the BDR cycle wing.

If you have the JPE version, it has a Vauxhall engine. Tamiya didn't go the easy way on that.

The only version I have is the 1/24 kit. The 1/12 never interested me that much, even though it's still not THAT big considering how tiny the real car is. I just never dug the weird juxtaposition of diecast and plastic of the large scale kits.

I'd consider this kit a multi-media, rather than die-cast. Only a few detail parts, like the exhaust is diecast. IMHO, this is one of the most delicate and intrigueing kits around. But yes, a small car never get's large, not even in big scale haha.

It's a nice car. I bought one back around 2002 and assembled it shortly after I got it. Beautiful model.

$526 USD is the MSRP. Well now, those will just fly off the shelves... :P

No thanks!! Not even if it's the 288 GTO.

I heard of pricing around 300 euro's, which is considerably less than 526. I guess we'll have to wait until they hit the shelfs and tell what they cost for real. I have two and wouldn't mind a thrid or fouth, but not at 500.

Thanks! One of my favorites as well. I'd love to have a real one... I understand caterham makes a version for us taller folks but but the closest car to test drive is 700 miles from me (when/if they  have one in stock).
