How many of you watched the "Undercover Billionaire" series on the Discovery Channel?  It was an 8 part series, you need to watch the episodes in order, where a self made billionaire was dropped off  in a city where he knew nobody, had no contacts, with $100 cash and an old pickup truck.  His goal was to provide for himself and create a million dollar business in 90 days to prove the American Dream was still alive.   It's well worth watching, and you no doubt can DVR or watch on demand.

Anyway, after watching the series, I noticed that the locale of Erie Pennsylvania was only a half hour off my route home from Toledo on Sunday, after attending the last NNL Nationals.  So Bill and I were up to trying the best ribs in Erie!  And to see the restaurant that was created during this series.

Here's the famous Underdog BBQ that won the Erie Rib Festival for both best rib and best sauce! And you can't find fault with the car parked outside!

The best ribs in Erie!  Straight from the slow cooker with nice rub on it.  There's two of their sauces,  and their own Underdog lager beer!  I only got half a rack because I had their smoked wings prior!

Here's me with their swag.  Yes, I did buy a t-shirt.  How could you not?

And here I am with Cowboy Mike, the pit master!  He was a major player on the show and was there on Sunday.  A truly nice guy who talked with everyone and thanked us profusely for coming!  Behind us is the smoker they made for the Erie Rib Festival on the show.  And that's Mike's Harley. He drove off right before we did, so we followed him until our first turn.

and that's what I had for dinner on Sunday!

Sorry Tom.

I'm seeing a lot of letters and numbers, but no pictures.

Something went wrong with my two posts containing photos yesterday!   When I open them up now, I don't see thumb nails at the bottom, so I redid all the photos in both posts!  Let me know if you can see the photos now.    All I can think of, is that I used the site tool to resize the photos.  This time I resized them before posting.

Hot chicken sausage, peppers and mushrooms in a tomato sauce that cooked all day in my insta pot. That Inst Pot is best to me as a slow cooker. That was on high fiber pasta. For some reason if I eat things with peppers in it. My sugar reading 2 hours latter is low. And my last A1C blood test was down from 7.7 6 months ago to 6. Woo Hoo!

Yup, all there.

I wish they weren't because there's really no place to get decent BBQ around here! :(

Tonight was homemade "Loaded Baked Potato Soup" with cheddar cheese, bacon and scallions.

Steve

I love potato soup.

My wife is German, amazing how delicious fresh produce can taste. For fresh vegetables, we visit the local farmers. Added are, no salt, no sugar, no ridiculous spicing.  Simply delicious.

Here's one most of you may not appreciate.  The wife and I rarely eat processed foods, maybe only for a quick snack.  Not much meats on the menu either..maybe a good steak for me though once and a while.

We eat mostly Italian.

Talk about summer, I made this one, once a week all summer long. Tomorrow too.  This one is a killer.  Turn the sound off;

Maybe a linguine is better though, I don't prepare spaghetti very often.

Lemons, olive oil, butter, chilis and/or garlic (optional), black pepper, parmesan.  Maybe cut and add some lemon skin slivers over the finished dish.  By the way, Italian lemons are not really very sour, good ones are sweet....the aroma!  Sensational.

Heavenly.

I made Italian sausage heroes in good old Noo Yawk City Greek Hot Dog Cart style. Large sweet Italian sausage grilled and split with lettuce, tomato wedges, sliced cucumber and raw onions topped with tsatziki, all loaded into a hero roll and ice cold Manhattan Special Espresso Soda to wash it down. URP!

We went to Outback last night.  Marcia had some kind of chicken and I had a well done filet mignon.  Excellent meal.

Wow! Sounds great! I never had it that way, but no summer is complete without a Joisey boardwalk style Italian sausage with grilled peppers and onions topped with red sauce!

That type of sausage hero is great, Tom. I grab them at the various Italian feasts in Brooklyn. The kind I made was ubiquitous around Manhattan when the Greeks had the monopoly on food carts up to around twenty years ago. No designer foods, just dirty water style Sabrett hot dogs and hot sausages, knishes, Italian sausage and good old soft pretzels covered in salt (tell the guy to put some spicy brown mustard on it and you are good to go). You can't find the Italian sausage anymore since the halal food carts started showing up. There are a lot of great eats I remember which aren't available anymore. I try to recreate them at home using my memories of how they looked and tasted. so, far, I've been successful in pulling it off. My next trick will be making an Ebinger's Blackout Cake. Haven't had one in almost 50 years. If you never heard of Ebunger's Blackout Cake, google it. It'll make you wish you were from Brooklyn. :D

The pasta sounds better. I make my own sauces, heavy on the fresh minced garlic and basil. :)

I hear that!  For the best pasta, learn how to do it and go by the rules. No extras.  Sauce is sauce, and not an abundance of
"special seasonings".  Puke.

Just do it with natural and high quality ingredients....please don't flub up an Italian classic with "herbs".

A little olive oil in the pan, let the garlic slices start to get golden brown, meanwhile the salted water is cooking and noodles are in, then add whatever you choose.

Raw tomato slices and some high quality tuna from a can...Yes.  Fresh rocket or parsley good here.

Maybe some short cut green beans...Yes.  Add a can of good tomatoes. Sensational with a short noodle.  Add some chilies at the plate..yes.

Keep it simple. The best food in the world.  Maybe at least right there along with New York Sandwich Shops.  Sandwiches are a blessing.

Wait.....Italian food suggestions from a guy named Mike Williams from Frankfurt Germany?

Sorry Mike.

I just had to. :D
