Heaven. That's definitely multicultural. I had never heard of pork vindaloo, so I Googled it. I never saw pork on a menu when I was in South India for work some years ago, but I was mostly hanging around with Brahman Hindus that were pretty much 100% veg. After Googling it, I see that it is a dish originating in Goa which is the Portuguese party state, so that makes sense now (and I am of ~50% Portuguese heritage). Your dal recipe hails from up north around Delhi. I was told that rice is more popular in the south because they have more water to grow it with. Dal dishes are more popular in the drier north.

Ace-Garageguy Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 (edited) Pork jalfrezi, not quite as eye-watering hot as my version of vindaloo. https://ericaobrien.com/jalfrezi-vs-vindaloo-comparison-guide/ Basmati rice with peas, toasted and buttered onion pita bread, and sweet chutney...all washed down with a pretty decent California Pinot noir. Unadorned fresh blackberries for dessert. Edited April 10, 2023 by Ace-Garageguy

Rodent Posted May 29, 2023 Posted May 29, 2023 Saturday night, a dear friend treated us to an amazing birthday dinner in my honor at her son's restaurant (the actual day was last Monday). Beef tartare, salad, and we ordered the chicken, the salmon, and the gnocci to split. Amazing bottle of champagne, and an amazing bottle of wine with dinner. Cheesecake for dessert. Then we went home in an Ecto-1 RAV4.

StevenGuthmiller Posted May 29, 2023 Author Posted May 29, 2023 (edited) Spent a little of my time this holiday weekend using up some of the copious amount of beef in my freezer! First, it was smoked brisket on Saturday. Today, 3 lbs of jerky going into the smoker. (Probably a little over a pound will come out!) Tonight it's going to be fillets on the grille.
