Porsche 914-6

[Lizard Racing]

Just completed the Revell 914-6. I read that this kit has fit issues, but it was on sale at HL for $7.95, so couldn't pass it up. 

The kit has a lot of detail and decals to make a racecar 914-4 (EP) or 914-6 (CP). But a racecar kit and no roll bar??

Ride height and body fit are issues that caused a bit of extra work.  The kit had the worst flash I have seen in a long time.

 

 

It's pretty much OOB except fabricating the roll bar. I de-chromed the wheels and painted them.

Fabricated roll bar, added extinguisher, headrest and oil tank. Sure wish the windscreen was tinted. 

Added oil cooler and battery box to the trunk along with bracing for the spring towers. Due to the trunk lid fit, it may be a curbside.

Oddly enough, I now have 3 race cars in SCCA class C Production: Datsun 240 Z; Mazda RX-7 and Porsche 914-6.

Yours came out excellent. I too have the kit, and like you said. "The kit had the worst flash I have seen in a long time." I'm not sure I''ve ever seen that much on one kit.

Nice work George.  I've built (2) of these kits-so far.  They are fiddly but do reward the effort put into them.  Kit bashing with them with a Fujimi 911 really brings them up a level.

Is the Revell kit the only available kit of this car in 1/25 or 1/24?

The Revell is the only kit I'm aware of in 1/25 scale. No 1/24 scale kit. Entex did a 1/20 scale kit.

 

Also there is a resin trans-kit to build the GT version.

Superb finish to the 914! The Revell kit has always been very poor in production and fit. I think I have three on the shelf, two I've started and put back into the boxes, the third, a recent re-issue looks to be just as bad as the other two. I've seen the resin kit built elsewhere and it's very good but expensive. There was another one from I think a Germany based manufacturer in resin but that was I understand. to be a poor attempt and subsequently fell by the wayside.

It is one of my favourite real cars and so annoying that a reasonable kit is still not available!

Volki is the only other resin 914/6 kit I'm aware of and it is long out of production.  I searched for years for one unsuccessfully.
