James2 Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 (edited) I believe I'll be doing this one in an as delivered form, such as when it was unloaded at Nassau. I took the advice given and modified the chassis before assembly. It's just a start but I figure I'd do this and the #003 together. I used Tamiya tape and covered the attachment points and the toothpick to hold while painting. It can be easily removed and will provide another clean attachment point. The Pelham Blue should be the accurate color for this build. Edited September 23, 2018 by James2
James2 Posted September 27, 2018 Author Posted September 27, 2018 Thanks guys, I managed to find some time to paint a few pieces. Just enough to keep myself busy! I used Alclad white aluminium, magnesium and steel. I also tried a different technique this time. I went much lighter with the Alclad on the engine and rear axle. Almost misting the colors on, allowing the black to show through more. Giving it a darker tone. They rotors are sprayed aluminium and the calipers are steel. Some touch up with a brush and they look pretty good. If you notice I numbered them for easier assembly later. Also on the 003 chassis I used MM lacquer which was great. This time I used MM enamel, I is really slow drying and without a dehydrator it will need to sit for some time.
Jantrix Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 I've wondered. Why would a race car have the spare mounted on the car at all?
Matt Bacon Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 1 hour ago, Jantrix said: I've wondered. Why would a race car have the spare mounted on the car at all? Race rules? The Ferrari 330P4 I built recently has a spare mounted above the transmission, behind the engine and visible through the big hole in the back. I can't believe they'd carry that extra weight around unless they had to... It might also be that it's necessary because in some races the driver can't be helped out on the circuit... I've seen enough pictures of lone guys trying to dig themselves out of the sand traps at Le Mans to think that must be (or have been) a rule there... best, M.
Richard Bartrop Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Rules intended to keep at least some passing resemblance to a production car. Last I checked the rules for Le Mans still require some space for luggage.
afx Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 (edited) Yes rules at the time required a spare to be carried on-board as well as provide space for luggage and a passenger. Some of the most infamous are the (2) luggage boxes at the rear of the GT40. Spare wheel in place . Edited September 27, 2018 by afx
935k3 Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 The Porsche 917 had a collapsible spare tire between the required "luggage spaces"
James2 Posted September 28, 2018 Author Posted September 28, 2018 Correct on the spare tire rule and thanks for the info everyone. Last night I drilled the distributor for wires, this seems to get a little harder to do the older I get!
James2 Posted September 29, 2018 Author Posted September 29, 2018 This car will be the Pelham Blue...

James2 Posted September 30, 2018 Author Posted September 30, 2018 A few body adjustments. Had to lose the rear-end cooler and add a new peak. Also filled in the trap door on the left front fender. I found four sink marks and filled them as well...
James2 Posted October 1, 2018 Author Posted October 1, 2018 Removed the cooler, trap door and jack connections. Primed and ready!
Rider Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 Nice progress, looking forward to seeing this come together.
afx Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 See you included the lift straps for the plexi-glass side windows - nice touch.
