This is the new form of hot rodding.
Interesting and just as innovative as it should be. Now I know what I can do with that Tamiya Kit I bought. Sorry ::)

Kurt around 10 years ago a kid was running a Neon with drag radials up front at Milan dragway in MI. Not sure what his times were but I was told it was fast.

Andy, its funny the Neon even had its own road racing class (SCCA)if I remember correctly?

About drag racing, here is a reference picture I found from the early years.

Stripped down, bare minimum speed projectile of the day.

Kinda reminds me of what could be the spirit of the builder of the car I posted.

I want to see the Transaxles able to withstand the abuse . Then I want to know why manufacturers can't use them in daily drivers . Seems to me , the transmissions on FWD go out in record numbers as opposed to RWD vehicles

The car on the picture is a VW Gol.

That is pretty much all we see at drag strips in Brasil. FWD cars.

It's the old story of regional differences.

In a country like the U.S., where the regular man's car had a V8 and rear wheel drive, and a 302 is small, the logical way to go drag racing is using a big old V8.

Here in Brasil, there were three (03) car lines with a V8. Galaxies, Mavericks, and Darts (including it's variants). Production figures during all the time they were built is less than 200.000 cars, all included, and they were the most expensive cars available.

When the cheap V8 was the working man's cars in the U.S., here in Brasil, the norm, the average guy's car, was a VW Bug, a Renault Dauphine, a DKW Vemag, and that evolved into the VW Passat, the VW Gol, the Chevrolet Monza, the Ford Escort, all four cylinder small cars.

Only the guys with deep pockets, drive a V8 on the track.

Look around on YouTube, they are out there and running single digit times. Some may use aftermarket transmissions, just like the RWD racers do, others beefed up stock manuals, alot of the Shelby-Dodge and SRT4 Neon guys are running the Torqueflight based 3 speed transaxles Chrysler brought out in the 70's and 80's for L and K body cars.

is that a 4cyl?

i understand a lot of you old school guys don't like the newer NON V8 stuff but, you have to respect it.  These guys are running 1/2 or 3/4 the number or cylinders and still getting close or beating a lot of times that a V8 can put down.
