rastta Posted October 15, 2018 Posted October 15, 2018 (edited) So I finished up my last couple builds this weekend. I was ready to paint the El Camino when I suffered a painting setback. So while I waited for the paint to arrive, I started the Bronco. Loved the Revell Bronco kit. It was a level five, so it had a lot of nice details, especially in the suspension and decals. Decided to do it Grabber Blue with Classic white with a flat white and black interior - all Testors enamel. Kit came with houndstooth decals for the interior which were really nice. Here's a few pics of it. The AMT 1959 El Camino kit was just the opposite of the Bronco. It was not very detailed and had a ton of flash on everything. I decided to try the Scale Finishes paints on this model for the first time. I was also going two tone which meant a fair amount of masking, as there is a lot of chrome I was going to brush on. Made the mistake of not using primer on the white coats and when I went to tape it for the red, it simply peeled off. That's when I wound up ordering more paint and primer. All in all I wasn't impressed with the paint, especially since I had to primer it which killed a bunch of the details. Also I put on several coats of the supergloss, which isn't nears as glossy as the Testors lacquer. So after all the work, I'm not happy with the finish at all. Especially after the finish on the Bronco came out much better and that was Testors enamel clear air brushed on. It also scratched pretty easy. I probably should have bought some enamel for the touch up because the other paint is so thin it's useless for touch ups. All in all it was a learning experience. I was happy with most of the chrome - as this is my first try painting it on. Also used foil for the side and probably should have used it for the rear around the fins. Renegade Posted October 15, 2018 Posted October 15, 2018 Very clean build. Hope mine turns out as nice.
bbowser Posted October 15, 2018 Posted October 15, 2018 Both are well done, the colors on the Bronco look especially nice. I want to do an El Camino at some point, hope it turns out that good!
espo Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 Great looking Broncho. I like the OEM look of your build. The El Camino is a very old tool of a kit designed at a time when AMT didn't put as much effort into the details, and so to build one today and have it look like what we have all come to expect is very hard. That said your looks very nice and again I like the OEM look of your build.

While I made some changes to "color" them up - on the underside etc. I tried to stay true to the color schemes. That's why the El Camino interior is grey - not red - as they didn't do red interiors, although a lot of "custom" El Camino's sport Impala dashboards and interiors now days.
Phildaupho Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 A couple of real nice models. I am especially impressed with the Bronco.

rastta Posted October 16, 2018 Author Posted October 16, 2018 Thanks for all the nice words! I'd have to admit - the Bronco is one of my favorite builds.
RAMBENNA Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 turned out really nice, great job , colors are awesome
Sixties Sam Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 Two great builds! The Camino looks a lot like one I built a while ago, except mine is a mild custom with chrome 49 Merc wheels and grille from a Revell 59 Impala kit. Your Bronco is really well done! Sam
Buffs Fan Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 Growing up my neighbor had a Bronco like that and I would go over and help him while he restored it. His was Cherry red and White it was a beautiful truck... Great job on both of these builds
