cheyenne93 Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 (edited) So while the clear is hardening on the chevelle. Thought maybe ill try to get one more in the books. This was started 2014-15? Building it to match the 1:1 I had back in the late 80s. Was originally a 1980 turbo, spanked turbo v6. I built a 355 and dropped in it. Turbo 400 trans. Wish I had some pics of mine. Another one I miss!!☹️ The 1:1 pic is just like the one I had Edited August 19, 2020 by cheyenne93
cheyenne93 Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Got the top painted on the chevelle. Hope to have it done in a few days.
Straightliner59 Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Mr. Snake, sir. I would like to request permission to swap horses, right here, in midstream. I've had this sitting around for about 20 years, and it's a lot closer than the Pete is, and, I would really like to see it through!

I'm pretty sure I'm going to be switching projects myself.

It's Monogram's ancient Midget kit, adjusted to more resemble a "big car", inspired by the Belanger Special. You can just call it Midget/Indy Car. I want to switch, because I was looking at some photos of old Indy cars, and the solution to one of my dilemmas suddenly came to light!
Straightliner59 Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 That went better than expected! I used expanded metal mesh, from a cheap spatter screen and a doming block, to make the grille. The seat back is .005" styrene sheet, and .125" Evergreen half-round, for the padding. It will receive some shaping, before being covered.
Spottedlaurel Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 Nice work on the grille - is that what was holding you back?
vamach1 Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 I hope to work on the Cobra convertible some more this week. All the Mysticrome Cobra’s were coupes that year so this will represent a one of none build. ?

It was actually something with the seat, and the cockpit , and the multi-piece body, and the way it assembles. I just had one of those head slapping moments, and voila! The project is back on the bench! I just got the idea for the grill, yesterday, and tried that, and it was a quick finish, to that!

Straightliner59 Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 Feels like I am rolling, here! I got the rear radius rods almost built, and have the seat cushions made. I will likely cover them with parchment paper, although, I am considering another option. I also cast new front wheels. The rear axle is solidly in place. I hope to have the rest of the suspension mounted by the end of next weekend.
cheyenne93 Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 (edited) The chevelle is done. Not my best work , but turned out OK. Edited August 27, 2020 by cheyenne93
Outlaw_Pitbull_0411 Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 (edited) Custom blazer still needs an interior but, i really have no interest in doing it. And it does roll! Edited August 28, 2020 by Outlaw_Pitbull_0411 Want the post deleted
cheyenne93 Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 (edited) Moving on to the 80 monte. Got it primed. Edited August 27, 2020 by cheyenne93
Straightliner59 Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 Radius rods progress! Once they are permanently installed, I can finish up the details in the lower "half", at which point, I can begin working on the seat and cockpit coaming. I will use white glue/water infused parchment paper for all the leather surfaces, and a whole lot of piping to hide the seams. Fortunately, there is a lot of piping on a real one, too.
TimJ Posted August 30, 2020 Posted August 30, 2020 (edited) Despite being very close to finishing progress has stalled for the past few weeks as a problem arose after fitting the windshield. Up to this point the body had fitted onto the chassis just how it should but after fitting the windshield the front end wouldn't come down far enough, meaning that the screen was fouling the dashboard. DSCF1546 by timothy jones, on Flickr DSCF1547 by timothy jones, on Flickr This meant I had to do some serious trimming and sanding on the dash. Before: DSCF1543 by timothy jones, on Flickr After: DSCF1626 by timothy jones, on Flickr With hindsight I should have fitted the windows and checked the fit of the interior before sticking it together. The body sits a lot better now so I should have it finished in the next couple of days. Edited August 30, 2020 by TimJ
Straightliner59 Posted August 30, 2020 Posted August 30, 2020 I have paint on the rear wheels. I made a new mold for the front wheels, because I wasn't happy with the results I was getting with the first one. Glad I did that! They are much better, now. The radius rods have been painted and mounted. I still need to add nuts to the rear radius rods attachment pins. I am feeling pretty confident, about getting this thing done by the deadline!
TimJ Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 It may have taken over six years but the Mustang is done.
