Thanks Steve! I 've seen the odd custom example at a show, otherwise most of the retired hearses I see are at the banger racing (demo derby). I'll probably build my donor Ecto 1 that way, as it now has no glass.

After 25+ years, I'm calling it finished

It's far from perfect, but I was working with what I started when I had different standards and I tried a few things I'd never done before. And it's another very long term WIP that's finally complete.

Made a little progress on the 49. Wheels painted, engine wired, built a hood scoop for it. Tried to make scoop look like a home made that someone just threw together from sheet metal. Gonna try to stay old school weekend warrior kinda thing with it. Gonna do a basic roll cage and cut out the door panels and do smooth ones. As always, feel free to comment.

Im not dead yet!!!!!!

I was sucked into a four month time vortex that was the renovation of my Sons bedroom that had a lot of underlying unseen issues to be fixed once the plasterboard was removed. Sadly during this period My son was relocated to my hobby space and everything was packed up.  Just about set up again but not in time to gitter done for this period but will have to target the next one.  The AMT 64 Mustang modified is back on the table.

Will try and get pics tonight. The body and hood is painted.  The hood polished and decalled awaiting a wax coat. The body is waiting for the clear to dry again.  Polished a little too much and burned through the color in a few spots so had to fix that.  Will look to polish and decal tomorrow night before moving on to painting the chassis frame and interior tinwork.

Spent Sunday afternoon with the finishing touches on the 934 RSR beginning with decaling, installing headlights and lenses, and all the tiny  bits such as wipers, door handles and mirrors. Overall a great kit from Tamiya as always, yet one that has offered me a number of challenges, the biggest one is all the traditional 911 back trim! After all the problems I encountered I finally watched a number of 911 builds on You Tube and discovered the errors of my way. It actually is best to mask everything and airbrush the semi-gloss black. As it is, I’m happy with how far I got with it and calling it done. Now I’m antsy to start another Porsche.

This is my second completion under the BOYD banner and I imagine it won’t be the last either. It’s a great way to get those nearly done items off the bench and into the case! Thanks again Snake for the inspiration.

NZanglia, you didn't officially register for this round, though you were in Round 9. Do you think you can get it finished by the end of this month (next week)? If so, I'll be glad to add you to this round's list. If not, you're better off waiting until the next round because you can't run a project over three consecutive rounds, only two. I'm fine with it either way, just let me know. 

Meanwhile, I see that once again I have piddled away nearly the entire Round build period chasing newer, shinier squirrels without even declaring a project. DOH! :angry: Looking around the Snakepit, I think the only eligible project I have that would have any chance of completion in the next 7 days is this AMT '66 Skylark Craftsman resto/rescue. I started it about 2010 and I think the last time I worked on it--started the foil work--was about 2014. Dreading the foilwork is what put this one on the Shelf of Doom. All the hard work is done. The green plastic body has been straightened, scribed, corrected, and polished to a high shine. The chassis is completed and painted. The bucket seats have been modified and the interior basic colors (white with black dash and floors) are on. Here's what I have to do yet: 

*Do all the foil/chrome work.

*Find and detail four wheels and tires

*Un-decal and then polish out the glass

*Detail the grille and rear panel areas, and touch up the chrome

It SHOULD be do-able in the time remaining, even with my superpower of procrastination. Wish me luck! B)

Yup. Put me in for next round.  too much to do to finish inside a week. Will give me a change to clean out my spraybooth area :)

@Misha Goddammit i love those Porsches. I have the Big Jagermesiter Tamiya Kit to rebuild now that i have finally found the replacement glass and translucent tan fuel tank sprue. Built it maybe 30 years ago with my dad. So I plan on rebuilding it and giving it to him as a gift.  Good times back then :)

Thanks Tom! I’m intrigued by your kit bash of the Stude and the Merc. The two fit together very well as well as being of the same vintage. Hope to see some more of your progress on it.

This should offer enough stability to support the trailer while allowing the feet to be switched out.

And although it broke where the 2 piece floor was glued together it wasn’t quite a clean break as it was assembled with tube glue. I like that you worked out dual positions for the landing gear. I had the same issue with my trailer below...

Down position for rest.  I found a screw post on a toy, and used that with the foot being the base from a jack out of a kit. You have to screw the bottom piece, handle on top is just for show.

Thanks, Tom. I also have to figure out a way to get the up position feet to stay in place. Once I get it assembled I thought I might try a rubberized finish on the inserted end of the feet to get a friction hold that can be easily done & undone.

Thanks Misha!  Very slow progress here!  When you pick up a project you abandoned maybe 25 years ago, you absolutely forget the assembly process you had planned! I might as well have started with someone else’s old project!

I glued together the fiddly suspension pieces, adding some lengths of straight pin where needed. Got them onto the chassis plate, which is a belly pan. First time up on wheels!

There are rookie mistakes here that would be tough to fix, this was started some 30 years ago. It was the first time I sliced and diced, so there are some proportion issues. 

I was finishing up the engine and realized I don’t have the exhaust manifold.. will need to improvise unless someone miraculously has one!

Ha! Sometimes ya gotta laugh!  Somewhere in my foggy memory I thought I might have another Mercedes Gullwing kit in my basement storage area.  I went to look and sure enough there was a box! Still I didn’t feel good about taking the exhaust manifold from a new kit, but guess what? I open it up and it’s a poorly started parts kit!  Yea!  I can take whatever I need without guilt!  

Now the evil conundrum... the body I modified 30 years ago has some flaws. Wheelbase slightly off, and one side of body is 2 scale inches different in length. And now I have extra Mercedes and Studebaker bodies!  What to do?

I noticed the wheelbase problem and that's easily fixed. Dunno how much trouble it would be to fix the 2" difference in the body sides but it doesn't look to me like you're gonna GITTER DONE this round. 

You can of course carry it over to the next round, BUT if you start with new bodies, it's no longer the 30-YO project and wouldn't be eligible for the BOYD build. :unsure:

Why not go ahead and finish this one up in the next round, and then use your new bodies to start an all-new build, using what you learned doing this one? B)
