smellyfatdude Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 Without getting in to a ton of detail, I need to try and find the parts to reproduce the top part of the engine, seen in this photo. Kit parts, or resin pieces wouldn't really matter. Those are Hillborn injectors, and an early GMC blower sitting on top of a Weiand manifold. I don't need exact reproductions, just something close enough. I've been trying to get this project off the ground for a couple years, so any help would be appreciated. What's it for? A ' 32 Ford five five window coupe street machine, with full fenders.
Daddyfink Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 One current, and kinda easily available source would be the Monogram Slingster
smellyfatdude Posted November 5, 2018 Author Posted November 5, 2018 I checked out some pictures online, and I'm liking what I see. That might just do it!
Gramps46 Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 Would these work for you? If yes send me a PM with your mailing address and I will drop them in the mail.
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 (edited) I would recommend against the engine in the Slingster. The scoop makes it look like Zippy the Pinhead. The engine in the Revell Miss Deal "funny car" kit is about dead on, and it's a beautiful piece. Still easy to find for reasonable jack. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Miss-Deal-Funny-Car-1-25-Revell-Complete-Unstarted/173619018057?hash=item286c7ff949:g:Cm0AAOSwYCRb22TN:rk:4:pf:0 Edited November 5, 2018 by Ace-Garageguy
smellyfatdude Posted November 5, 2018 Author Posted November 5, 2018 I have also been eyeing the Revell K.S. Pittman ' 41 Willys. I think it's the best bet, and it's going to have a few more parts I need. Gramps, thanks but I know the lhs has the Willys kit. Wanted to go there today, but we're getting dumped on with sleet, and the roads are BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH. There's also going to be a companion build to this ' 32, a ' 47 Ford sedan, which I'll use this resin ' 48 to build.
dodgefever Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 (edited) The new tool Revell '41 Willys has nice Donovan valve covers and maybe the best 4-port Hilborn availble. For the block, heads and blower, I still prefer the old Miss Deal parts (and it has Chrysler FirePower lettering on the valve covers, where most modern kits are blank). The new tool Willys blower is too squared off and toy-like, and the engine detail is so-so. Edited November 5, 2018 by dodgefever
smellyfatdude Posted November 6, 2018 Author Posted November 6, 2018 From what I can see of the box photos, the Miss Deal parts do look nice. I'm going to be using the block from the AMT ' 57 Chrysler, and I think those pieces would look nice on there, and more period correct. I'll get to the hobby shop . . . . if it ever stops snowing.
Straightliner59 Posted November 7, 2018 Posted November 7, 2018 I would go with the one from the Miss Deal, as well. It's the best early hemi going!
Chris in Berwyn Posted November 8, 2018 Posted November 8, 2018 My Miss Deal has a huge sink mark on the top of the scoop. I had to use a scoop from another kit.
