beeRS Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Hello all, I used to get my forum images hosted by Imageshack. A few years ago, they decided they would no longer offer free hosting and wanted a monthly fee. As a result, my old build threads look a bit baron with all my pictures removed. I had some great images on my 1966 Ford Galaxie thread... This is very annoying, and as a result I have hardly posted any of my work on here in the last few years. My question is, am I being a bit too optimistic to hope for image hosting for free from somewhere? Where do others on here get their images hosted? Should I just accept that I should be paying for this service (I don't mind if that's what it really takes).
stitchdup Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 This site will host them for you now so you dont need a host site unless you post on other forums too. I use flickr myself as the annual fee isn't much but the free blog sites such as tumblr can also be used as a picture host. Depending on your settings, facebook is also a possible host but personally I would avoid using it.
Belugawrx Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 I use Imgur now,..its free ! Not to say it won't succumb to the Phbucket ransom tactics down the road, but for now, it works !
crazyjim Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 When Photobucket did their nasty deed, I went over to flickr for free. In a couple of days Flicker will start charging a fee but let you have 1,000 pics free. You don't need an image hosting sight to post pics here on MCM.

I just tested it and hopefully here is a pic of my WIP Galaxie…

Expand Remarkably, it's not as widely known as one would expect. Shortly after PhotoBucket did the dirty, the powers-that-be here at the MCM forum generously allowed an unlimited amount of storage for model car photos right on their own servers. Previously, there had been a rather low limit for MCM site-hosted images, and posters were encouraged to employ 3rd party hosting services for that reason.
Tom Geiger Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 (edited) I have always used Fotki.com as my photo host. I have a personal account and one owned by our club for NNL East. They are paid accounts, but it's not that expensive. And once you sign up, every so often they'll run specials and I'll re-up both accounts for multiple years then. I had the board to host my images here since it's been allowed. Edited January 15, 2019 by Tom Geiger
StevenGuthmiller Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 Even though the forum allows unlimited photos now, I still use Fotki for the majority of my posts. Mine is also a paid account, but if I remember correctly, it's about $2.00 a month. Not enough to break the bank. Steve
DPNM Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 I had used Ph...bucket 'til they did what they did. I now store my pics on my computer and upload from there. If I don't have the pic stored already I just snap a pic or few with my camera and upload those. It's free and there is no fear of it becoming a charged service down the road and having my pics held hostage.
Lordmodelbuilder Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 I have all my pictures over at Fotki. Have been there for 17 years.
