BeakDoc Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 Built from the Italeri kit. Painted Tamiya TS-8 Italian red and polished. No clear. Not thrilled with the stance. I wish it sat a touch lower. And the decals were horrible. They disintegrated as soon as they hit the water. The few I did use were cut out with the paper backing on and Elmer’s glued in place.
Gramps46 Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 Nice clean build of this iconic Ferrari. I do see what you mean with the stance though.
Jim N Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 Looks great! You did a great job with this model.
89AKurt Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 Good to see one built! What would you recommend for lowering it a little?
Funkychiken Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 It's a great build. The stance is high, but this could be the ralley version. Great finish on the paint without a clear coat!
MrObsessive Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 That looks terrific! It's been over 20 years since I built mine, but I can remember having to take the spindles (especially the front) and moving them up a bit on the knuckles. Same for the rear.......I think I fudged it a bit and moved the wheels up on the axle to lower things a tad. I have no build pics (1996), but it's one way to get around the high stance.

First of all, thanks to everyone for the comments. I don’t take lightly compliments from those whose builds and skills I admire. As for solving the stance riddle of this particular model, I’ve deduced that the culprit is the glass. I’ve replayed the entire build in my head no less than a dozen times. Every time I mocked it up during the process it sat beautifully, including the one before my final assembly. However, the one piece windshield/side glass/rear glass part was never part of any mock-ups. And it is a rather thick and clunky clear mold compared to other “glass” I’ve encountered. I think what is happening is that the bottom edge of the windshield and side glass is meeting the edges of the interior tub, preventing the body from seating further down. I should have done one more mock-up after the glass was in place. Maybe I could have (carefully) ground down the problem areas of the clear parts before going full bore into the final assembly. Hindsight is always 20/20. Again, thank you to everyone for the comments and suggestions. When it comes to these quirky build issues it really is good to talk it out with others who have been there and done that. Every build certainly is a new learning experience and this forum is a great tool to have on the bench.

Aaaaah! There you go! I hadn't thought of the glass being an issue as I didn't use any of the kit glass in my model. I made mine out of clear stencil sheet as I didn't care for the somewhat distorted appearance that mine had. This can also be a problem with other kits namely Revell. With their platform interiors and thick glass, this leads to 'stacking' and can make the cars sit taller than they should. I was glad to see them get away from this with the new '68 Chevelle kit. Hopefully that's a trend that'll continue. Just the same, your Ferrari looks terrific and it's one of my all time favorite cars! My 'holy grail' is to get sometime Model Factory Hiro's 1/12 scale one. A lot of money, but IMO worth every penny!
Gramps46 Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 Thanks for sharing your deduction Chris. I plan to build the Italeri SWB and will watch for the same situation.

LOL This is why I'm not a fan of Revell kits, same thing happened on the 240Z. Think it would be wise to get Plastruct 0.02" clear plastic for cases like this. But the most important thing is, yours is built! ~thumbs up~
GlueTube Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 Luv the car, like your work, well done! Regards Brian Kroon
Dann Tier Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 Sorry about the decals, but it still turned out FANTASTIC!!!!
ismaelg Posted January 20, 2019 Posted January 20, 2019 Looks good. For the stance, get a set of jack stands so it looks to be raised. The thick glass messed up my '51 Chevy as well. That seems to be a common problem.
