gotnitro? Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 Heres my intended build for the 2019 build off the venerable Mack R model Only thing I plan on changing is the grill to the newer style , and just received the gorgeous decals specifically printed for this build from Diecast and Decals . Once finished its tasked w hauling the dry bulk tanker I'm currently working on.. See ya on 1 February 2019 !
tbill Posted January 27, 2019 Posted January 27, 2019 I bet you change the whole kit, hahaha.... look forward to this build
gotnitro? Posted January 27, 2019 Author Posted January 27, 2019 Haha Haha I do have a trend of changing parts mid build..ok I'll leave the kit engine in this one no Detroit lol Noticed this box art has spokes , where the one I received from tbill in a trade has really nice Alcoa wheels..hmm kitbash
Jim B Posted January 27, 2019 Posted January 27, 2019 Should be a nice build, Jeff. Did your kit come with the square tanks or just the round ones?
gotnitro? Posted January 27, 2019 Author Posted January 27, 2019 Jimb- I just looked ...and it has BOTH ! Neither are chromed looks more like a vocational truck this reissue . I'll use the updated rounds for this build since the company I'm building it as had late 80 early 90 Mack's. The etch grill came from Detail Master and looks fantastic.
gotnitro? Posted January 27, 2019 Author Posted January 27, 2019 (edited) The engine should probably be an Eco-Dyne , which doesn't look significantly different . Looks like instead of gold it's more gray, please correct me if that's wrong I may drop a set of Gary Wallaces SOS Drive tires on this..my kit rubber doesn't look very good. DRIPTROIT 71 Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 The company that I worked for for a short time had grey engines in all of their R models, probably because they painted them all the same during rebuild. Looking forward to more! Welcome to the Build Off!
gotnitro? Posted February 2, 2019 Author Posted February 2, 2019 Thanks Brian ! I'm starting the build today..just a few errands to tackle ! Quick visit to eye dr for new glasses , been noticing a change sucks getting old
gotnitro? Posted February 3, 2019 Author Posted February 3, 2019 First update for the kickoff..the frame going together. I cleaned off the ejector pins inside the frame rails for better fit..guess it helped . Of course with these amt kits..fits together and good instructions are subjective..still haven't figured out the fit of the trunnion support rod. Instructions show the bar fitting down in the fish mouth grooves..not happening. Any tips ? Jeff
Sam I Am Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 I have one of these in the stash as well. I also am learning about the AMT fit and instructions thing.
gotnitro? Posted February 4, 2019 Author Posted February 4, 2019 Spoke w a buddy said that rod is correct, advised building the susp first then attaching the sub assembly...back to interpreting the pictures

I love building trucks, but these AMT kits are frustrating. There's a lot of test fitting and mockups happening before anything gets glued, that's for sure.
drinkone2 Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 Cool build, brings back memories of Matlack Macks pulling all sorts of tanks on the Pa. turnpike back in the 70's. Did you scratch the entire bulk tanker or did you start with the tank body from DTMC?

The frame is 100 percent scratch
Rusty92 Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 That tanker is awesome. I agree on the AMT semi kits. The White Freightliner is a headache at best. You will do fine!
gotnitro? Posted February 5, 2019 Author Posted February 5, 2019 I sorted out the frame issue , and moved on to the engine while everything dried . I'm searching for pics of the injection lines and plumbing for the Maxidyne engine to add some needed detail Jeff

I saw Keystone is on facebook but so far I'm not. Do you know if he has a website or an email to contact him?
stitchdup Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 This will be good, I dont think I've ever seen a bulk tanker before
gotnitro? Posted February 5, 2019 Author Posted February 5, 2019 Heres Keystones info if anyone is interested
Oldmopars Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 I don't know if this will help any as its from the DM600, not the R, but this is how the rear trunion looks on it.
gotnitro? Posted February 10, 2019 Author Posted February 10, 2019 Mock up time ! Using the round fuel tank option, installed the proper hangers and rear cab support. Next up I gotta scratch the air blower / vacuum canisters used to power the pneumatic trailer .I'm testing a few spare air cleaners from parts kits
gotnitro? Posted February 10, 2019 Author Posted February 10, 2019 My new toy arrived and I couldn't wait to assemble it Artograph 1530 paint booth...yeah it looks clean now but its gonna be properly broken in soon
gotnitro? Posted February 13, 2019 Author Posted February 13, 2019 I broke in the booth today with some paint ! Tamiya Mica Red ..absolutely love this color . Just the right amount of metallic .The lighting makes it look orange..sorry Now the frame gets a coat of sg black..best investment purchasing this booth..its snowing outside and I can spray anytime now ! Thanks Tom for the advice
tbill Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 I got ya covered in a few years, it’ll look like this,
