Hi-Po Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 I build this kit years ago, shortly after the kit became available on the market. At first my plans were to build factory stock and in factory colors. But then one day while I was searching for decals for another project, I came across a sheet for emergency vehicles in 1/48 scale by Microscale. Well, that got me thinking about doing something a little different with the Hudson. Short story, it became the Fire Chief's department vehicle (and daily driver). The red paint is Tamiya spray can, which came out very nice. I should have rubbed it out a little, but I got lazy and wanted to finish this one as I had another project going. The chrome work is a combination of kit, Alclad and BMF. A LOT OF BMF! The siren and red light are scratchbuilt as is the antenna. The interior is done in two-tone gray. Even though I detailed the engine bay, I opted to cement the hood close. This was a fun and enjoyable build and looks really great sitting on the shelf. Enjoy the photos.
shoopdog Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Excellent work! A lot of foil is a understatement.
espo Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 I like this a lot. Very cleanly done. This must have been a very wealthy Fire District, those Hudson's were not cheep back then.
LouO Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 Really clean work! Shame we can take a peek under that hood.
89AKurt Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 Nice job on the bubblegum machine, and siren. You turn those on a lathe?
r60man Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 Curious about how you made the light. Came out really nice.
fivesuns Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 Also curious about how the light was made. Great job on the car.
Hi-Po Posted March 6, 2019 Author Posted March 6, 2019 For those who are interested in the siren and light, I scratchbuilt both of them using ball point pen parts. On the light, I cut down the barrel of a pen to build the base. I then used red sprue from a long forgotten kit to fashion the light itself. On the siren, I used part of the plunger mechanism to make the rounded part. The front of the siren was made using styrene tubing. A small piece of wire mesh was used for the siren screen. After everything was done, I used Alclad for the chrome. Thanks everyone for the kind words.
