iamsuperdan Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 I know I told myself I wasn't going to start anything new until I cleared a few off the bench, but I think you all know how that goes. Opened up a kit that has been kicking around a while, Tamiya's Volvo 850 Turbo Wagon. Nice simple curbside that should be a quick build and will look good on the shelf when done. I built one many years ago, along with the BTCC Volvo wagon, and the BTCC sedan. Annoys the heck out of me that I don;t have those anymore. Anyway... This will be interesting. The body has unfortunately seen better days. I'm think that once the glass is secured in place, this should straighten out. If anyone has any tips for dealing with this, I'd love to hear them! And I'm pretty sure this is what's left of the decal sheet. Although I have never seen old decals do this. There's some residue on the bags and in the box, so I'm pretty sure these just disintegrated over the years. No matter, I can recreate and make some new ones. And finally, I'm, pretty sure I won't be using this carpeting. Doesn't want to unroll very well.
espo Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 These are nice kits. The decals and the carpet look as if they have seen high humidity conditions. The bottom half of the box would feel a little softer than the average card board if that is so.
djflyer Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 I have the same kit that oddly enough has the same issue with the roof (I wonder if it was a shipping issue?), but now will have to go and look at the decals and carpet piece. Too bad they did this as a curbside, but at least that open front chassis area invites all kinds thoughts for engine swaps. LS or supercharged Ford perhaps? Will definitely be looking for your work on this one.
kelson Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Nice!,i built this same kit a few years ago,it goes together easily like all Tamiya kits.
oldcarfan Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 This is a great kit. I really wish they would reissue it!
89AKurt Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 I built the BTCC kit last century. Was tempted to do a tuner of it, but did box stock. Bummer about the roof pillars. Perhaps making it an El Camino would avoid the problem.
disconovaman Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 (edited) Soak it in hot water to soften up the styrene... That may get the pillers back in shape? It's a neat kit, wagons are cool no matter what brand.☺ Edited April 3, 2019 by disconovaman
