B-Ram Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Hey everyone, Starting my next adventure. Building the Revell 53 Chevy Panel. I have decided to build an alternate version. It took quite a while to get the stance the way I wanted. Bil
Geno Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Way cool Bill, I love old panel trucks, shoot, I love old trucks period lol. I'm working on one as well, posted in the trucks forum. I'll be keeping an eye on yours, it's starting out great.
B-Ram Posted April 5, 2019 Author Posted April 5, 2019 Hi Gene, What is the title of your build. Thanks everyone for looking in. Bill
Jantrix Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 How did you get the front end down? Does it come with a stock front suspension? I thought it was gasser parts only. Looking good though.
B-Ram Posted April 5, 2019 Author Posted April 5, 2019 Hi Rob, The kit is a a gasser, but it comes with a stock front suspension. To lower the front end, I had to cut down the firewall and lower the shock towers. I will post a picture when I get home. Bill
B-Ram Posted April 7, 2019 Author Posted April 7, 2019 To get the front end lowered, I shortened the shock towers and removed some of the fire wall area. It will take some work to get the fire wall looking clean again. Also, I placed the dash in the car to check the fit. It doesn't even come close. Bill
Modlbldr Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 Wow! You're right. It doesn't come even close. Looks like you've got a 1/25 scale dash in a 1/24 build. Lol. The modifications are looking great though. Later-
randyc Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 I've got an older version of this one. This may inspire me to hold on to it for a while and try to get to it someday. Looks like a nice start and a great idea for it.
Bob Ellis Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 my kit from the 70s had opening doors. Does this one?
bisc63 Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 52 minutes ago, Ballroad said: Isn't this a 1954 ? I think this kit contains the front end pieces for a 54 and a 53, or at least the older releases did.
B-Ram Posted April 9, 2019 Author Posted April 9, 2019 I can only go by the box Art that says 53. I’m not very familiar with that panel truck. Bill
bisc63 Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Odd box art says 53, but shows the 54 grille installed!
B-Ram Posted April 11, 2019 Author Posted April 11, 2019 Here are the two grilles included with the kit. I will be using the one on the right. Bill
bisc63 Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 Yep, that's the 53 on the left, 54 on the right. Either way, you get cool parts for the spares box, or custom fodder! Any thoughts on color scheme yet? Really diggin' the build.
B-Ram Posted April 12, 2019 Author Posted April 12, 2019 For color, I’m thinking Tamiya Chrome Yellow on top of a gold or silver base. I may go two tone with a off white roof. Bill
B-Ram Posted April 12, 2019 Author Posted April 12, 2019 This first picture is the Chrome Yellow with the silver base on the left and gold base on the right. Don't think I like the color. The second picture is Tamiya Clear Orange with a gold and a silver base. I like the gold base on the left. I'm thinking the Clear Orange with the gold base and a pearl white with a silver base for the roof may look good. Bill
James2 Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 That left one is Gorgeous! What's going on with that dash?
B-Ram Posted April 14, 2019 Author Posted April 14, 2019 Here is the dash with some filler added so it will fit. Bill
bisc63 Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 All those colors are pretty nice, but that orange is RACY! I think it would look great with a simple creamy white top; when everything is "pearly", the pearl loses some of its impact. The contrast of the pearl flake against a solid color gives it more pop! Any way, it should look cool, since all your choices have a certain appeal. On another note, there's a good thread (on this site I think) about correcting this kit around the windshield/cowl area. There are some shape issues, but I can't recall the specifics; IIRC parts of the Revell '50 Olds were spliced in to get a more accurate appearance. That ring any bells with anyone?
