High octane Posted May 30, 2019 Posted May 30, 2019 Don't remember if I saw that while in high school, or after in the car magazines, but yes I did see that in the past.
thatz4u Posted May 30, 2019 Posted May 30, 2019 had one in my mis-spent youth.....as George Harrison sang.."all those years ago"..
RancheroSteve Posted May 30, 2019 Posted May 30, 2019 There was reunion and display at GSL XXV a few years ago. Some photos here: https://public.fotki.com/Mark-Gustavson/gsl-xxv-1/fisher-body-guild/
iamsuperdan Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 With the skills kids today have on computers, it would be interesting to see what kind of vehicles a teen would design now. In typical 60s fashion, no girls allowed.
espo Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 This was a very big deal years ago. I think GM was trying to get new designers into the industry. At that time there just wasn't the information available to the average student as to the options for a career. At one time Chip Foose was a student at their design studio in Los Angeles. I have no idea if he was part of the program, but this was the type of designers they were trying to attract.
SfanGoch Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 Now, they actively recruit people with experience operating a cookie press.
jas1957 Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 The Gilmore Museum in Michigan until October has a featured display on the Fisher Body Craftsmen Guild.

Earl Marischal Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 Vauxhall UK, then part of GM, ran a similar competition in 1960s and possibly later. From what I remember, contestants were given a standard set of 4 wheels to use as part of the concept, presumably to ensure some sort of scale in which to work. Anyone else remember this? steve

Draggon Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 Amazing what kids did when they did not have video games and social media.
Harpo Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 The Fisher contest was for those 11-20 years old, today that age range couldn't even read let alone comprehend that book. In fact, most of today's 20-30 year old "men" don't have the competence of a 1965 11 year old boy in any field. Kinda makes me glad I'm old.
Foxer Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 This was where many GM, and other car designers got their start. I always thought of entering this but finally admitted I didn't have the creativity these guys had! It's good to see Fisher Body appearing at many NNL's
