Trying to send a message to another board member

 This hasn't been a problem before, but I've gotten 4 404 error messages in the last couple days.  Is this something I'm doing wrong or an issue at the other end?

It is a glitch in the forum software. We have spent years trying to fix it or at least figure out what causes it. No luck yet. It will go away on it's own and reappear elsewhere at a later date.

In my experience the problem can be cause by certain word or letter combinations.  Try a simple test message and see if it goes through.

Use word "test" for both the subject and for the messae and see if that works.  If yes, then there is probably something in your failing message that causes the 404 error.

I've found that a combination of my colored text (need this to see the board better), pics and emoticons seem to bring on the error. I get rid of one of those the message will post. Weird, but that's what has worked for me.

What is most unsettling about the forum software is the fact that when I view the forum contents in "unread" order is seeing occasional private messages sent from one person to another in the list. 

That's a bug that makes me think everyone here needs to be painfully aware that your private messages may not be all that private.

Wow!   I've never seen private messages in my feed. 

As far as the 404 Errors, you guys have hit it, something in coded items is causing the error.  It can be as simple as using a character from your keypad that's used in code.

The other error that was happening was when people tried to upload an image that was too large. That was the system refusing something over a certain size.  Other boards I'm on do the same thing.

John, you tried just recently? I just checked my inbox and it's not full. Maybe try sending another PM.

If you tried my actual email address, it can be days before I check that one as it's not my primary one. I have different ones for different things.

Holy Cow! Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I haven't seen this either, and I was using the unread content view a lot for a while.

I'll open a problem ticket with the forum software vendor.

Here's what's puzzling to me:  the message I've been trying to send is just basic text with no pics or unusual symbols, and is more or less a follow-up to another member's comments in one of my posts.  It has now failed to go through 5 times.  I'm sure I'm not the only one having this problem, which makes me wonder how members are pulling off trades etc.
