Some rumors are starting about new plastic toolings for a 1957

Oldsmobile and a 1957 Buick.

Any insight on this?

Humm...................... inquiring former taxi drivers want to know if this is a plot to restore old and outdated Revell 1950's tooling. Ed Shaver

When I first got into model building I actually bought one of these and returned it thinking they forgot to put the body in the box...

Hi Gregg.

On one of the "other" sites a 57 Buick is being strongly hinted at.

Rumored at a late 09 release date. No more information has been leaked though. ;)

I hadn't heard about the Olds. That would be way cool!

I heard that too, from another site. It sounded more like wishful thinking, more than an actual rumor.

another site mentioned a 70 Ranchero

a 57 Buick would be cool. but it would HAVE to be marketed right. not only stock but with some custom options as well. similar to the 58 Impala

I'm just hoping for the Corvette ZR1, and the 2010 Camaro to be kitted. those would be guaranteed great sellers. Revell would be taking a chance with the 57 Buick, I'm sure Revell will eventually do the 2010 Mustang as well since there in a Mustang mood right now

Wow, that sounds cool. Hope it's true. I could think of at least 7 57 Oldsmobiles I'd build.

The King's first car was a 57 Olds, father Lee had at least two, and they fielded at least three for Ralph Earnhardt, even!

I'd be up for some Buicks, too...

What company are these being rumored from? I'm wondering if they would be from Revell, using the chassis of the forthcoming 57 Chevy Black Widow/150?

The NEW AMT has promised new tools as well....The Olds and Buick could share some parts, no? (And a Pontiac could draw from the same tooling...)

Trust me guys, this is going to be good. can't quite comment on the actual facts, but something is coming. I have been sworn to secrecy.

I take it we should hear an announcement around the iHobby show in the middle of October

The dealer that I buy my Corvette promos from has been told that there will be '57 Corvette promos this coming year. Since the only '57 Vette that Revell has access to is the old Monogram kit in 1/24th it will either mean modifying that tool into a snap style kit or creating a new one.

Thought I'd just add to the speculation but as the old saying goes, "where there's smoke, there's fire". There may be interesting kits coming in the future for all of us.

Billy, Olds and Buick used a way different chassis than Chevy for '57. IIRC, the Olds and Buick used a X-type/cruciform frame, while Chevy still hung unto the perimeter frame until the '58.

I think even the '57 Olds and Buick frames were not quite alike so there wouldn't be much parts sharing.

Alas, that was in the days when there really WAS a difference in the GM divisions, not just superficial. :P

That would make my day if they would do a righteous 1957 Olds and Buick!

I'd like to see the "three section" rear window roofline for both models as that was more common for the hardtops than the "Z" roof shape of the Buick Roadmaster and Riviera for instance. :P

Answer to George 53, yes they were 1-32, that still wont stop the too department from doing a hatchet job on those old tools though. Personally, realisticly for that matter I dare saty thjat you willever see a 57 Olds from anybody much less a 70 Ford Ranchero, sorry! Yeah , we will see a dang Camaro probably! I dunno, im going back and build some more gasoline pumps!!!! Ed Shaver

I had heard rumours about the Buick on another message board. I seem to recall rumours like this a few years ago involving Galaxie Ltd..that could be interesting..

I have only wanted the 57 Buick and Olds models for the past 45 years. My luck, the day after I get turned into ashes, one of the kit manufacturers will announce that they are coming out. I have never fully understood the reasons why they have not been kitted by now. We get multiple 57 Ford and Chevy kits but no Buick and Olds. Go figure.

I think I've seen resin '57 Buicks and Oldses, were there promos made of them back then? I recall a '56 Olds promo from Johan, but haven't seen '57s.

Theres been some "fishing" talk about a couple of serious new kits in the works for late next summer and where I got this information, I don't question it one bit. However one of the kits is a very popular car and the kit will have many uses and body styles using the same chassis & engine parts. That should help narrow down the car choice a wee bit.

Some of you may remember back in the '90s when AMT was producing those new kits ( '71 Charger , '58 Edsel and many others) and a certain car was mention in the works but it never made it past the front office or so they said. I'am not saying its that kit or its being made by AMT or R/M or ... I say no more and please don't ask for more.
