I have a club build off coming up and this is my plan. I need recommendations on a kit to supply wheels (don't need to look like the ones in the pic) and tires. I have the wheels and tires from the Revell Ford dually but the tires need better alternative.

Visor perhaps?

I'm going to start with the AMT '50 Chevy 3100. Also some ideas for an unusual engine choice would be appreciated. Just throw out some ideas please. Trucks usually aren't my thing but I love the look of this one.

Much appreciated.

Definitely a visor!  That '50 Chevy pickup kit comes with one.

Engines?

Early Mopar Hemi in the AMT '53 Ford Pickup

Caddy engine from either the AMT '59 El Camino or Monogram '59 Caddy

Olds engine from 1950 Oldsmobile kit

Rear fenders can be made from pill bottles.  Note the running boards are just flat metal... these elements make that truck!

Front fender lights can be made from big rig top of cab lights.

Looks like a fun project!  Let's see it happen!

I'd use a diesel engine of some kind with a set of stacks. That truck looks like it has a C on the hood. So, it probably has a Cummins. I'd look at some road tractor kits for a donor. It could also supply the wheels and tires. Maybe the frame too.

You could grab a caddy engine from the AMT 49 Ford coupe kit too or an Olds from the 40 Ford Sedan for that matter ( even has a blower option with that one or injected I think). Nail Head Buick from the AMT 40 Ford coupe. Just some thoughts. Someone on the forum probably has a few of these kickin around.

I had four engine ideas based on my memory of my spares, and I'm missing two of them. ? Now I have to go through all my kits and figure out where I've squirreled them away.

Still need some ideas on the truck tires.

This looks like a a 3/4 or 1 ton version of the truck, but I'm not sure I want to bother stretching the bed. I may just move the axle back about a half inch to give it a rake.

Use the Ford where you're steeling the wheels and maybe the tires.

After closer examination, the tires in the photo look more like a standard tall off road tire. I'm going to check my 4x4 projects and see what fits the look. Coming up with two sets though, ugh.

I used  the rims from a Monogram S'Cool Bus on a rusty 55 Chevy towtruck and they worked a treat!  The rear rims are super deep to take wrinkle slicks so they would be perfect for duals or mega wide tyres.

Cheers

For a really different engine, use the Lincoln engine from the Lindberg 40-something Lincoln; it has the exhaust manifolds on top of the engine and the intakes on the side.  Or maybe from one of the AMT/MPC Lincoln Gangbusters kits.

So far this is the plan. I think these will be perfect. I have a set of four of these and two more tires coming in the mail from a club friend. I'll figure out the rims from the parts box.

As for the engine. The blown hemi from the Revell 41 Willys hot rod is the leading contender, with the Revell BBC from the pro-street '67 Chevelle a close second, the ability to keep it under the hood will be the deciding factor. I had two other ideas but I cannot seem to find the engines that I know I had. I'm also kicking around a resin 4 cylinder turbo diesel, but that might be a little too "Welderup", for me.

After studying the photo I think I'm going to move the rear axle back about 3/8 of an inch, to give it a longer look with a rake. The real truck is probbaly a 3/4 or 1 ton with a longer wheelbase and bed, but stretching the bed is more work than I want. I'll be starting this, this weekend, so stand by for a WIP thread. Thanks very much for the advice guys. It helps.
