69NovaYenko Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 (edited) Stumbled upon this one on Pinterest, thought it was one bitching ride. Maybe someone with more skills than I have at possess at this moment may want to take a stab at it. Thanks for looking. Edited October 17, 2019 by 69NovaYenko
Classicgas Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 Cool. I'm planning on doing that with a 66 GTO and 65 El Camino.
Russell C Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 (edited) Hemmings had a variant a few years back: https://www.hemmings.com/blog/2017/02/02/one-off-lemans-gives-glimpse-into-alternate-universe-in-which-pontiac-built-the-el-camino/ I'd like the effort a bit better if it didn't retain the Chevy taillights but had something that instead are identifiable as Pontiac. 89AKurt Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 That's funny. I have a neighbor who restored a '69 GTO, got a kit that I was planning to build a 'before' version for him. Recently someone gave me an El Camino kit found at a thrift store, and my neighbor has one of those too, unrestored. Hmmmmm....... ?

The tail gate looks like they added the PONTIAC lettering. As for a 1/25th scale, look at my avatar, this is a picture of a model I built to represent a '67 El Camino I had. I used the Revell '66 El Camino and the front end and seats and door panels and the tail lights and rear bumper from a '67 Revell SS396 to complete. These two kits are not as compatible as they should be but it is doable. A model of the GTO - El Camino wouldn't be that hard really. The tail lights and tail gate might offer the biggest challenge depending on how much you want the rear to look like a Pontiac.
Phirewriter Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 (edited) Interesting concept, looks good but it should have had Pontiac rear wheel openings/partial quarter panels integrated into the design for better continuity. Looks a little pieced together from my perspective. At least with this Grand Am version, even though they're standard Chevy quarters the shape is similar to the front, the design flows better. tbill Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 Get a couple kits, and start cutting, that’s what I did, lol

They should have grafted in the GTO rear wheel openings and it would have worked better. Still overall a good clean job of a vehicle GM should have put out! They should have done one from all the 3 makes!
gotnitro? Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 That's actually very cool looking, but IMO the tail lights need to be changed . I'll talk to the squirrels about this one...
Jim J Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 I've heard that someone actually did build this conversion/custom in plastic, and it was featured in an issue of Scale Auto Enthusiast magazine around 15-20 years ago. Anybody know what back issue it might be in? Thanks!
