Slightly off-topic again, but just following up on the MC5 reference, my wife and I attended this show a couple of weeks back which featured the MC5's Wayne Kramer:

 https://variety.com/2023/music/concert-reviews/nuggets-wild-honey-lenny-kaye-alex-glendale-concert-review-1235620790/

"For pure dexterity, meanwhile, it’s hard to beat Wayne Kramer, who, dressed all in white, reestablished himself as an older generation’s Tom Morello for a few jammy minutes in the Act I-closing “Baby Please Don’t Go,” with the Alarm’s Mike Peters handling the vocals and then standing back from the fireworks."

do they still kick out the jams.

Good to know that Ann Arbor folks are still "kicking out the jams" after all of these years. Those in the know will know what that means....? -RRR

Just wanted to give you a big "THANK YOU!" for your contributions to the plastic model community over all these years. From great building, modelling articles, tips, features, and inspiration for others who appreciate your work and model building. Thanks again Tim!!

Wes////Yep....that pretty much says it all....

Listening to the "Saturday Night Safety Dance" on Sirius XM last night (1980s New Wave and Alternative) and what comes up next?  Yyep, Kick out the Jams....the uncensored version too, whicih was pretty ripe back in '69 in little old Ann Arbor....

Never thought of that song as being something you'd hear at a new wave dance party....but sounded great anyway.

If you've never heard it, check out "Sister Ann" which has one of the best intro buildups of any rock song in the last...oh...fifty (!) plus years...

Best....TB

The Dominator would make a good wheel stander!

Hah!  Isn't that the truth?  Of course, that idea never entered my eighth-grade mind, but still....!   Thx Tony...TB

Brother Wayne Kramer is still kicking out the jams.

25-7-1970... too bad that I was 3 months old and 2,000 miles away on that date (haha). Such great footage of the guys in their prime ! Now, about that silent, colour footage filmed by the FBI ( COINTELPRO )  of the MC5 at the 1968 DNC in Chicago !

Tim, just finding this thread now. Thanks for bringing this one back to the top. I am blown away by the maturity and skill demonstrated in this build from a 15 year old. Very impressive, and the restoration looks great. I find the articles on restoring or showing off significant builds from the earlier years of the hobby immensely interesting. Please don't hesitate to post other oldies, if the mood strikes. Cheers.

Trevor....thanks so much for your thoughts.  I've been told many times by those in the know that the vast majority of model car builders really don't have much interest in old/historic model car projects.  I really think that's too bad, so it is really encouraging to hear that some of us (at least those who commented on this thread) do have an interest.

I suspect you already know about the following, but just in case not, the International Model Car Museum in Salt Lake City Utah has a great collection of historical model cars.  I can send you the link to an extensive photo collection  of those models if you need it.

Best,  TIM

I find it amazing that the 4 top models survived all these years. So many models were lost from time. In fact the museum had significant models recreated.

It's interesting  to view the trends from the past and the techniques of the past.

Nice job on the restoration Tim. Thanks for the album of pictures from the museum. Preserving the past is important.

Add me to the list of people who LOVE this stuff!  I have a whole photo album full of pics of 60s-era model builds that I have saved for future inspiration.

Thanks for continuing to share some of your ‘classics’ Tim!

A thought about all those who have albums of pictures of those old kit builds from the 50's 60's and 70's. It may be worth having the pictures scanned and sent to the International Model Car Builders Museum for posterity.

Once again, I would really like to thank each of you that posted your comments and thoughts in this thread.  It means a great deal to me that you all took the time to respond and write your thoughts in such a gracious manner, especially about condering what are now some very obscure tidbits of the hobby that we all enjoy so much.  Cheers to you all....TIM

I see the decals on the first version of your 70 Cuda f/c have Bethuy Engineering on them. I think that is reference to Don Bethuy a mold engineer with MPC at the time and later he was with Johan when it was owned by Seville Enterprises. The kit designers like to squeeze their names on the decal sheet for their 15 mins of fame!!!LOL

Rocking Rodney Rat, excellent video on the MC5 from Wayne State University, tartar field in the summer of 1970. I see what I missed in the history of Rock and Roll in my own town of Detroit when I was 10 years old. Thank you!!
