GeeBee Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 I started this one last year, but work and a move to London took over my life, (Hopefully we'll get back down there very soon) I got as far as getting the body and body parts ready for primer and ordering the paint from Zero paints, most version of this model I've seen built up have all been the most common colours the GTi came in, Black, Mars red or silver, I decided to go with a totally different colour called Inari silver, which looks more of a metallic light green that a silver, so with the country pretty much on lockdown and all my photography work put on hold, I decided yo make a start on this one, the body was primed using my go to primer, grey plastic primer from Hycote, once it had dried out for a few days, it was lightly sanded and the basecoat applied, this is only second time I have used basecoat paints, the first being the Revell Land Rover i'm also building atm.
GeeBee Posted April 14, 2020 Author Posted April 14, 2020 Hopefully i'll get the body and body colours parts in clearcoat over the next few days
Erik Smith Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 I like that color a lot. This is a great kit. Looking forward to your usual clean modeling on it.
charger74 Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 I just finished that one today, its a very nice kit
89AKurt Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 I got one of these on trade, but not the GTi version. Looking good so far!
Jim Whalen Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 The Revell VW Mk1 Golfs are good kits - I'm sure yours will turn out to be a nice build Geoff.
Funkychiken Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 It's a good start, and the colour kind of suits it
geetee66 Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 (edited) This is an ace kit. I built one a year ago. No fit issues and great instruction sheet. Keep going mate! here's my version, with aftermarket wheels and a bit of extra detail Edited April 16, 2020 by geetee66
GeeBee Posted April 20, 2020 Author Posted April 20, 2020 (edited) Still too cold in the painting room to get any clearcoat applied, so decided to get the wheels painted for the Golf GTi, VW L091 is the correct colour for VW wheels until 1993, the actual year i stopped working for Volkswagen Edited April 21, 2020 by GeeBee
Dann Tier Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 I will be following this beauty!!...nice work!!!, and i love that kolor!!!
markbt73 Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 Looks great! I'm very fond of the early watercooled VWs. So cool that you're actually getting the right paint codes for things. I might have to pick up one of these kits... being a member of this site is going to get expensive...

I'd really like to get hold of the Revell Golf Rabbit kit that wasn't available this side of the pond, when i was working at VW, we had a MK1 Rabbit in this colour, much nicer interior with a padded dashboard and air conditioning, I borrowed that car as much as I could.
espo Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 I like this color also, with this different shade I can see how it would stand out. The kit looks like it's very well done. This Rabbit has me thinking I would like to try one.

They were great little cars! My first car was a Mk1 Scirocco, and my second was a hand-me-down Mk2 Golf from my dad. And a good friend in college had a 4 door Rabbit. I have an old AMT Scirocco kit that I'll build eventually. They did a Rabbit too, and I think they've both been re-released.
GeeBee Posted April 21, 2020 Author Posted April 21, 2020 Managed to get all the parts that needed to be painted satin black airbrushed today
GeeBee Posted April 25, 2020 Author Posted April 25, 2020 A little more airbrushing done on the Golf GTi, side panels clearcoated where they are body colour, they can be masked once it's dry to paint the door cards black, interior parts painted in Revell Tank grey #78, thinned with lacquer thinners.
GeeBee Posted April 26, 2020 Author Posted April 26, 2020 I really wasn't happy with the paint finish on the Revell Golf GTi, so it's been sitting in the stripper, the door panel lines have been re-scribed, and now it's back in primer, hopefully round 2 with the basecoat will get done next week.
GeeBee Posted April 29, 2020 Author Posted April 29, 2020 Round two went much better, I'll be leaving it to dry out before I apply the clearcoat.
stitchdup Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Looking sweet mate, the colour is just right imo

Pierre_tec Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 (edited) Love that color, like a greenish tone, similar to mist green from GM Edited May 1, 2020 by Pierre_tec
beeRS Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 Another big thumbs up for that colour from me. Is it a metallic or a pearl finish?
