62 Catalina Custom

This is the AMT 62 Pontiac Catalina custom kit, built box stock. I painted this a long time ago, probably when the kit first came out and shelved it mostly because of paint flaws. Dug it out a couple weeks ago and was going to strip it, instead I polished it and put it together. This is a really nice kit, the issues I had were really all of my own doing. The frame and floor were both warped, dipping in the front a decent amount. My mistake was thinking it would straighten out in final assembly, it kind of did with clamps epoxy and JB weld. My other main mistake was way back when I painted it, the custom nose piece and the grille surround were very different colors of gold ( one reason it went back in the box)! So I tried to cover it up with pearl white and a single “scallop” down the center of the hood. The white did not cover well so it took multiple coats and the edge is not very crisp. With all the problems I made it still is a nice kit to build and it looks ok for the shelf! Comments always welcome!

I like the shade of Gold, what paint did you us ? Nice mild custom and the Button Tuck interior looks good also.

This paint was given to me by a club member who worked in a body shop, it was a color they used on a customers car so I’m not sure what it is, I wish I had more of it cause I really like it!

Very striking color. Good looking mild custom. This really was a great kit with the button tufted interior,  very attractive chrome wheels, white walls, tube grill etc.

Yes that is the interior that came with the kit, it’s really nice and could easily be used for a lot of other projects!
