Erik Smith Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 (edited) I was inspired by the Cannonball CBP and started on this old MPC kit (or newer, depending on your own age). Thanks to Keith (Bucky) for the kit! It won’t be an exact replica of The car from Hunter, but a resemblance of...with a different source of power. The MPC “body” kit for the Daytona fits okay, but front and rear lines don’t match up too well. I’ll get them close. Filled the sunroof too as I need a place to stick that red rotator... Erik Smith Posted April 29, 2020 Author Posted April 29, 2020 Lower will be silver, and this red plastic manages to work itself into everything, so I blocked the lower parts with BIN shellac based primer.
Erik Smith Posted April 29, 2020 Author Posted April 29, 2020 Engine will be from a Dodge Viper, well, 60% of a Viper engine...
dwc43 Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Ah, the second car with the small light. Liked it too. First one was a hard top with black wheel centers. They had a light soooo big that it hardly fit through the window and would dent the roof of the car. That's the one I'm working on now. And I got the big light too. lol

You could get that car with a 3.0L V6 car, but most were 2.2 and 2.5 with and without turbos. Fast cars too. I raced a turbo 5spd car with a big block T/A and we were neck and neck until I had to hit 5th gear and had no more power and he got me. lol Not my car though, cause mine would not have been stock. lol Cool idea on how to cut down that engine too.

I’ve got 4.8 of probably completely unbalanced V6 power! The Hunter car was also in Black Moon Rising...again, mine will only be similar. No replica here as the Snowman and Santa team want to do things their own way...
Erik Smith Posted April 29, 2020 Author Posted April 29, 2020 (edited) The transmission in the MPC kit was weak, literally and figuratively, so we searched the yard for an acceptable replacement. Thanks to some modern laser technology and a lot of time at machining by the Snowman, a Ford Taurus SHO tranny will, or in theory, should work Edited April 29, 2020 by Erik Smith

Plenty strong enough. 20 years ago I used the same trans mated to a 4.6 V8. It actually fit in the Taurus, too. Wish I still had it.
kelson Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Very creative, nice to see these old Mpc kits getting some love.
Dann Tier Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Never saw one of these built before -this is looking COOL!!!!
Sam I Am Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 "Honey, I shrunk the...V10". You are doing a great job with shrinking the engine. On a side note, I owned a 1985 Dodge Omni GLH turbo. It was lighter and faster than the Daytona Z. Never lost to anyone when I grabbed 5th. ?
henry57 Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 I've got one off these I've been thinking about building with a prowler engine.
slusher Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 Really nice build you have Erik. I watched Bad Moon Rising on VHS in the 80’s....
Erik Smith Posted April 30, 2020 Author Posted April 30, 2020 Mister Santa got the wheels and tires ready:
Bucky Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 Thanks for the shout out, Erik! Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

I need a V6 for a race car and I can't quite seem to find the right size to make it fit or fill out the engine bay. I think you have inspired me to cut up a v8. Never even dawned on me to do that. I was just hoping to find the right part. Tires and wheels look great too.

Erik Smith Posted November 13, 2020 Author Posted November 13, 2020 Well, it’s about time I dug out all the stalled projects... I got a little more done on the V-6 and painted some black trim on the body. I am not looking forward to squeezing the interior and chassis into the body - it’s a tight, body bending process.
Mattilacken Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 Great work on that engine! Looks superb!
