59 Impala Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 I'm rebuilding this 61 Buick from a glue bomb and also the trailer. I had to make the railings for the trailer and also the tail gate. I copied the tail lights from another kit and had to use springs from the parts box. I had the tires and wheels a;so in the box. I sprayed flat yellow on the body and then sprayed Metallic Red over that. The trailer is painted with SNJ Silver powder mixed in enamel thinner. There is still a lot of work to be done.
Modlbldr Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 Nice color on that. That is a car that looks much better as a wagon than a sedan. Later-
TooOld Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 Sharp color Dan ! Looking forward to seeing what you do with this as I just started rebuilding/restoring an old '62 Buick Special Wagon promo .
David G. Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 Love the color! I'll be keeping an eve on this one. David G.
TarheelRick Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 Got to agree, that is one sweet wagon. Wish Round2 could find those molds and reissue that one. My thoughts on the trailer, paint it white and put some U-Haul decals on it. As soon as I saw the picture that is what came to my mind. That being said, it looks good just the way you have it.
Scott8950 Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 I'll definitely be following, I've got one im gonna build as a gasser... Nice job and that color looks great!
Tom Geiger Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 Don’t forget the two vertical chrome strips on the rear window. A couple of thin Evergreen strips chromed, I’d just glue with canopy cement to the rear glass once it’s installed.
59 Impala Posted June 2, 2020 Author Posted June 2, 2020 WOW, thanks for all the great comments guys. I'm putting the BMF on it tonight and my eyes need a little rest. I don't have the stock tail lights so I found something that I can use. I also had to make a stock rear bumper for it by using the custom one that was with the car and formed it to fit as a stock one. Still a lot of work to be done, but it's getting there. I'll post more pics when I get the BMF done.
StevenGuthmiller Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 Very nice! The color is very reminiscent of factory correct 1961 Pontiac "Dawnfire Mist". Not available on the Buicks, but it wouldn't surprise me if it could have been a special order color. Steve

59 Impala Posted June 2, 2020 Author Posted June 2, 2020 Thanks for the color chart Steven, and I hear ya Tom about the tail lights. I found something that I can use that I believe I had from way back in the 60's and never used. Ha ha. Well, I'm putting the BMF on it today and taking a break cause the "ol eyes need a break. Pics coming soon.
59 Impala Posted June 2, 2020 Author Posted June 2, 2020 (edited) Here are some more pics of the Buick. I checked on line for the rear window and some of these cars did not have the three piece glass in them, so, I'm not going to use the two pieces to separate the glass. The rear tail lights look like 59 Buick lights, not sure. They are 60 years old that I know of. I had to make the rear bumper out of the custom one and two spears under the bumper. I have an idea for a decal for the trailer and I'll think about that for awhile. The BMF was a real pain to install on this because of the faint lines to go by. I also used the Molotow pen for some of the chrome. Edited June 2, 2020 by 59 Impala

Seems like the majority of the built examples that you see have those dopey "bubble" tail light lenses even if the model is bone stock otherwise. Steve
