How many of you have used the Trading Post? How have the experiences been? Value to value of trades? Traders following through? Etc.?

I have a lot of things I need to move down the road. I'd like to help people here, but I don't imagine I could move everything. That leaves Ebay as the alternative. I just don't have any experiences trading stuff in a forum.

This should give you a good idea of how many members use it, and which ones, regularly.:

The advantage of eBay is you get cash if you sell, you have a worldwide audience, and the buyer pays for the shipping cost. Trading here, each person usually pays to ship to the other person, and you can only get back in trade what another member has already, so if you are looking to get back more obscure or uncommon kits, eBay might be the better option for you.

I've used the trading section quite often and have had no issues with anyone on it. I like the eBay route too, however, the fees that I get hit with a month down the road often makes it not as good a deal as it seems at first.

If you plan to use the trade section the best thing to do is be specific in describing what you have to trade, to include good pictures and pack them well. It is also often expected (but not required) that if you are a new trader, you ship your stuff first until people get to know and trust you. I have many on here who would ship to me, or I to them, without hesitation.

With all that being said, dive in and let us see what you've got. Trading is, in my opinion and from my experience, one of the best ways to build friendships on this site.

I agree as well, I've traded with several people here, or just sent them parts they needed and have people do the same for me. I have a few I would really like to meet in person as well after talking to them in PM. There are truely some great people here...

I haven’t traded, I’m fortunate that I have a good stash and access to enough local shows to buy what I need.

If someone I know on the board needs a part for a project, I’m happy just to send it to them. I enjoy seeing my parts get used and feel good when I contribute to a project!  People have sent me parts the same way, so it’s a good circle!

I am going to say I have been very well pleased on 99% of my trades.  A few years back we had a person that initiated a few small parts trades, then began trading full kits, shortly several of us were out of kits with no return.  All through the process there were health issues on their part. Then their friend/neighbor would take care of the trades for that person, with still no results.  I will also send small parts to others; why leave them laying around in my parts box collecting dust when they can be used.  The primary reason most of us would prefer a new trader, especially a new member to ship first, is that some people have signed up just to get access to the trade forum and then they begin the same issue as stated above.  As mentioned earlier, be honest with what you are offering and specific on what you will accept in trade.  One final thought, many of our members are out-of-country; if you do not want to trade with them please state in your trade request that you do not want to ship overseas.

Now, show us what you have and lets see if we can build up your stash into what you want it to be.

and, always put the subject of your trade item in the subject line on the post.   Many people ignore posts that don't say what is being traded or what the poster is looking for in the title.

Hmm......so I'm browsing around a few pages of listings and I'm not sure if my stuff is really worthy of trading and maybe more suited to Ebay. I see most of the traffic seems to be unbuilt kits or relatively complete projects. Most of what i have is more suited to be used for parts. Most of the parts listings I read seemed to die on the vine. Not sure now.

Either way, Trading Post or Ebay, I need to start compiling everything I need to move and get pictures and descriptions together. Thanks for all the info, and yes, I would be happy to ship first with trusted traders. I understand the need to build the relationships.

If you have mainly parts or built up/busted up builds that is still not out of the question. A lot of us don't mind trading kits for parts boxes or parts for parts. You could always post up what you have and what you are willing to trade it for. Try us out. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I will venture to say 2/3rd or better of my trades have been part for part.  If you are building something and need a certain part and have equivalent value parts laying around collecting dust, post it; someone may have what you need and would be willing to take some parts off your hands.

Ok, Mike.....

Allow me to throw this twist on you.... your item hasn't arrived yet...that I am in debt to you already......how about you post up some items ...."you're in need of" for a current or future build....& test the waters as to ...that I, .... or someone else might be able help or per chance "you may already have what they have been searching for"... or previously posted years back.

I concur with Tom....nothing ventured ...nothing gained!      Ha!! & no listing fees!

I hear you all, and I am working on getting some pictures of some of the things I have. I agree, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

The best part is most of what I need are parts. Of course, there are kits I would still need/want to acquire as well for certain projects or collections, but I don't know what half this stuff is even worth in terms of trade value, i.e., parts for kits. Most is from the 70's and 80's in all levels of condition, but there are a few things that are newer. I even have a few things I can't identify that were in collections of parts I've bought off Ebay. Lol!

Stay tuned.........

You're in luck. I have boxes upon boxes of parts.

Well, we are in the same boat then. I don't have any idea what most of my stuff is worth in trade value either.

Standing by to see what you have and to see if I have what you need.
