TransAmMike Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 Pictures of my first scratch build parts for my new in progress Gasser build. I'm using the Pro Shop 57 kit to do this. Using styrene sheet only here are the front tube axle leaf springs. I modified some of the front part of the chassis. These pictures are of course before some tweaking and cleaning and painting.
Bills72sj Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 Nice work. I would have been lazy and scrounged something from the parts bin.
TransAmMike Posted September 3, 2020 Author Posted September 3, 2020 Bill, fact is since I had a lot of redo's and aggrivations I have to agree with you. I still have lots to do to finish that front suspension and I'm sticking to it.
Deuces ll Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 I was just talking about this on another thread... Thanks for building this....??

It may have some tough times and a bunch of redo’s but in the end it’s satisfying and you’ve gained a new skill and the confidence to tackle the next one! Edited September 3, 2020 by Tom Geiger
TransAmMike Posted September 3, 2020 Author Posted September 3, 2020 Thanks guys. Tom, you're comment is right on. And to "Espo", thanks about the shackles. It was the difficult part to get right. With the right size Evergreen stips would have been a lot easier but since I did'nt have them and had the sheet I just cut them out. Took the most time cutting to size and shaping to get those brackets to look right. And now to the axle brackets and axle.

There is a lot of satisfaction in making something pretty cool from scratch. Here are my last two major creations. A couple of headache racks.
wrenchr Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 were they a headache to make? LOL look great though.
TransAmMike Posted September 14, 2020 Author Posted September 14, 2020 Update on progress. Moving along with t h e front s uspension. Now to get spindles, brakes, steering linkage.
TransAmMike Posted September 17, 2020 Author Posted September 17, 2020 Thanks guys, appreciate the comments. Did a little work on the suspension but not picture ready.
TransAmMike Posted November 3, 2020 Author Posted November 3, 2020 Still working on my '57 and have a lot done but nothing I'm ready to share in pictures yet, but I did get these rear tires from Kris, Great quality with black resin.
TransAmMike Posted November 3, 2020 Author Posted November 3, 2020 Sorry, I'm not great at posting pictures yet, especially resizing. The tires are great. I did use the same ones on the Nicholson '61 Drag car.
TransAmMike Posted November 25, 2020 Author Posted November 25, 2020 Yep, I'm still working on this first scratch building (kind of) project. It's fighting me like crazy but eventually I'll get her done. A couple of interior tub pictures and the engine. I know the shifter I build is a bit large out of scale but I think it looks kinda cool. Used a sewing machine needle and map pin for the ball. And yeah, the shocks are bit large. By the way, the headers are 2mm Aluminum wire.
Bainford Posted November 26, 2020 Posted November 26, 2020 Nice work Mike. Scratch building is a pain at first, but very satisfying in the end. Each attempt will show improvement. The downside is that after a while you look at some kit parts and think “I can do better than that”, then you start re-engineering entire kits. It’s all good though. Keep up the good work.
TransAmMike Posted November 26, 2020 Author Posted November 26, 2020 Thanks Trevor. I know I'll never get even close to some of the stuff I see here and I know I'll never go all out but I guess there are times you just have to do some scratch building parts.
TransAmMike Posted November 26, 2020 Author Posted November 26, 2020 Partially completed body. Duplicolor rattlecan sprayed Ford Toreador red mica, polished, no clear.
slusher Posted November 26, 2020 Posted November 26, 2020 Really nice paint and color. I like your shifter, your doing a great job!
Painted Black Posted November 26, 2020 Posted November 26, 2020 Yeah, like the shifter, needs a lock out lever...
TransAmMike Posted November 26, 2020 Author Posted November 26, 2020 Thats true Robert, and thanks guys'.
