Pictures of my first scratch build parts for my new in progress Gasser build.  I'm using the Pro Shop 57 kit to do this.

Using styrene sheet only here are the front tube axle leaf springs. I modified some of the front part of the chassis.

These pictures are of course before some tweaking and cleaning and painting.

Bill, fact is since I had a lot of redo's and aggrivations I have to agree with you.  I still have lots to do to finish that front suspension and I'm sticking to it.

Nice work. I would have been lazy and scrounged something from the parts bin.

Don’t take the easy route!

These things always start with a “I wonder if I can make that...” moment.  It may have some tough times and a bunch of redo’s but in the end it’s satisfying and you’ve gained a new skill and the confidence to tackle the next one!

Thanks guys.  Tom, you're comment is right on.  And to "Espo", thanks about the shackles. It was the difficult part to get right. With the right size Evergreen stips would have been a lot easier but since I did'nt have them and had the sheet I just cut them out.  Took the most time cutting to size and shaping to get those brackets to look right.

And now to the axle brackets and axle.

Tom, I agree. There is a lot of satisfaction in making something pretty cool from scratch. Here are my last two major creations. A couple of headache racks.

Yep, I'm still working on this first scratch building (kind of) project.  It's fighting me like crazy but eventually I'll get her done.

A couple of interior tub pictures and the engine.  I know the shifter I build is a bit large out of scale but I think it looks kinda cool.  Used a sewing machine needle and map pin for the ball. And yeah, the shocks are bit large.

By the way, the headers are 2mm Aluminum wire.

Nice work Mike. Scratch building is a pain at first, but very satisfying in the end. Each attempt will show improvement. The downside is that after a while you look at some kit parts and think “I can do better than that”, then you start re-engineering entire kits. It’s all good though. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Trevor.  I know I'll never get even close to some of the stuff I see here and I know I'll never go all out but I guess there are times you just have to do some scratch building parts.
