Greg Myers Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 (edited) With the discovery of the Kookie car in such a weird state and the Roth Orbitron in Mexico i wonder how many other lost Icons of Hot Rod history are out there ? Edited September 29, 2020 by Greg Myers
High octane Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 Probably several, or even more than we had expected.
Deuces ll Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 This is what happens when you put an iconic car in the wrong hands.....
afx Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 (edited) Same topic? Edited September 29, 2020 by afx
Snake45 Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 Both the Kookie Kar and Orbitron have now been fully restored, probably to better condition than they were originally.
Tom Geiger Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 The Hollingsworth Nomad disappeared and is rumored to be still around restored to stock. There is a replica built recently
Phirewriter Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 You really need to check out these books.

There is a replica built recently The original one has been in Canada for about thirty years, repainted candy red but with the door jambs and inner panels still gold. Photos of it appeared in Rodder's Journal some time back.

Jon Haigwood Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 On my FB Model page I change out the header photo often. I started going thru the list of AMBR cars. One of my posters asked that same question. When I post a new picture I try and research the cars to see if I can find where they were today. Some I could find no trace , a few I found in Museums and Car collections. Most notable find was a one (don't remember which one) that I found in Richard Rawlings collection. He had taken it to Japan along with some other cars for auction. I asked Richard if he had sold it and told him "American Hot Rods need to stay in the U.S,A.. He actually got back to me and said it was still in his collection.

ChrisBcritter Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 It's not as iconic, but I fell for this car over 40 years ago when I got the magazine; hopefully it survived but I haven't heard anything since I posted it on the H.A.M.B.: It's a sectioned '49 Dodge Wayfarer with a supercharged Plymouth poly V8.
espo Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 You have to give the builder credit. The body changes look like they were going for a Plymouth Fury look. With the exception of the windshield they got really close with the side trim if nothing else.
Draggon Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 (edited) Did anyone ever find the Johnny Zupan (formerly Louis Bettancourt) '49 Merc? It was stolen from Dean Jeffries' parking lot in the 70's and disappeared. I swear it was sitting in a driveway near my work in Oakland, CA around that time. The stacked quad headlights were a give away. It looked just like this: EDIT: I just read a post from 2017 on the H.A.M.B. that the car had been traced to the San Francisco Bay Area but that's as far as anyone got. That's gotta be it. styromaniac Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 (edited) One Roth creation that will never be seen again...the Mysterion. According to a book on the man...it was bought and parted out a long time ago. Rumor has it the American Graffiti Pharoah's 51 Merc is supposedly wasting away in a chained up parking lot somewhere. And at the risk of starting another flame war about Steve Scott...the Uncertain T....whereabouts unknown. Edited October 6, 2020 by styromaniac
