Hmann68 Posted November 1, 2020 Posted November 1, 2020 In the fall of 1970, a new 71 GTX pulls to the pumps of a Texaco station somewhere in the southwest. A friend picked up this kit at a swap meet so I did my best to make it look decent. Kit doesn’t come with a roof or rear wall, or a wall on the service bay side either, so I made some using sheet styrene. The checkerboard office floor is electrical tape. The lot is sheet styrene painted grey primer. I used some accessories from a Fujimi garage tools kit, like the desk and chair and toolbox etc. I’m no weathering expert by far, but I think it looks neat, and it was tons of fun. Thanks for looking, feel free to comment good and bad. ??
Hmann68 Posted November 1, 2020 Author Posted November 1, 2020 Sorry!! I posted in WIP on accident, feel free to move, thank you ?
RichCostello Posted November 1, 2020 Posted November 1, 2020 It looks great, but I think the kit is an MRC, not MPC.

Belugawrx Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 Nice job on the GTX ! The shop floor and tools look really well done too!??
Anglia105E Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Nicely done, Christopher....... and very realistic looking too. Using natural daylight for the photos is always best. David

alan barton Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 Chris, that looks excellent. That is easily the most realistic concrete floor finish I have ever seen. I have used grey primer before but never achieved the realism you have here. I too have this garage kit but it hasn't moved to the top of the list just yet. Thank you for sharing it with us all. P.S, love the touch of rust where the post goes into the pump island - that is what separates the good from the fantastic! Cheers Alan

I’m no weathering expert but I like the way most of it turned out. To do the floor, I sprayed the sheet styrene with grey primer from the hardware store, then brushed a darker weathering powder over it. I then would drop a small puddle of black and brown tinted thinner and spread it with a brush. It mixes with the powder and makes great “dried up” fluid stains. Who knows if that’s the best way, but I like it and it was fun ?
dragcarz Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 I don’t see many of these finished, let alone looking as real as yours, very well done,

kilrathy10 Posted November 11, 2020 Posted November 11, 2020 (edited) This is an excellent piece of work... I'd love to build something like this... Too cool, Man... The tile floor looks great... Electrical tape, huh? Whoda thunk it? Great idea... Edited November 11, 2020 by kilrathy10
Bills72sj Posted November 11, 2020 Posted November 11, 2020 I admire your efforts. Your weathering looks pretty realistic. I went with the shiny new concept on my one and only diorama. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/154551-grand-opening-of-the-american-restomod-workshop/
Tom Geiger Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 Nice work on the diorama! I like that you created the missing walls and a roof. I have this kit and have yet to do anything with it. The gas pumps look huge, and I’d been contemplating adding a second or third bay since there are few one bay stations. My family used to own a Getty station and we had three bays.
Sixties Sam Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 This is really well done! Great realism! It reminds me of some of the stations we had here when I was a kid. They're all gone now, replaced by look-alike convenience stores. Sam

Nothing a little sheet plastic can’t cure but come on...lol give 2 more walls lol. We had a marathon station in town when I was a kid that was real similar. One bay, 2 pumps outside.

stinkybritches Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 This looks so much like the Texaco station that my grandparents ran when I was a child. The only difference that I can see is that their's had 2 bays. Unfortunately, a Dunkin Donuts occupies that location now. Your diorama brings back a lot of memories. You did a good job on this.
Repstock Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 My Texaco build ended up being a shelf. Maybe someday...
james460 Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 Reminds me of an old Kay-O station on Williamson Road in Roanoke, minus the garage. Was the smallest gas station in town. Had gas, 4 quarts of oil maybe one can of break fluid. Gas was cheap 14.9 a gallon. during a gas war, I doubt you young guys know what this, seen gas at 13.9 gallon. Nice work on the station.
