Classicgas Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Just saw this on Megahobby A NOTE FOR ALL THOSE THAT ALREADY PREORDERED THIS KIT: THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE TOOLING THAT WAS DISCOVERED AFTER THE KITS WERE PRODUCED THAT RESULTED IN SINK MARKS ON THE BODY. THEY ARE WORKING ON FIXING THE TOOL, BUT IN THE MEANTIME THE KIT'S RELEASE WILL BE DELAYED UNTIL SUMMER 2021. THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING!

The initial Germany boxing of the kits already shipped a month or so ago. Couple of vendors in Japan just got them in this week. Edited February 10, 2021 by niteowl7710

Richard Bartrop Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Thinking back on all the sink marks I've had to fill over the years, I'm actually pretty impressed that they think this needs correcting.

It's not a problem with the tooling, for some reason there's a problem with the red styrene they used, I've also heard (unofficially) that Revell are re-tooling the bodyshell to fix the windscreen fault.

BVC500 Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 If Revell is doing this, and fixing the windscreen, great! Maybe they should take feedback in the design phase - would be less costly to fix later on. Announce a kit, then show the CAD drawings, and ask for feedback.

Not trying to be pedantic, but that's really "any more kits out", because hobby shops here in the U.S. that wanted to carry it already received shipments of the Germany boxing of the kit. The shop on eBay in the UK who's sold 46 of them is still listing the kit, and my auto correct ate my attempt at saying Japan just received and are selling the kit this week. There's a decent chunk of them floating in the wild and I wonder how they're going to deal with that, particularly if they're addressing the windshield/frame. That's going to require fixing the body, the frame height and the windshield glass unless they plan to chop the roof to fit the frame/glass. But Megahobby's announcement (they're the retail arm of Stevens International) was specifically addressing a delay on pre-orders of our U.S. sized box (and priced) reissue of the kit that was due this month. They were not carrying the German boxing of the kit. Edited February 10, 2021 by niteowl7710
Classicgas Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 I know nothing other than what Megahobby stated.

Wow! The speculations were that the windshield was done this way to make it easier to also produce the open-top version. But if they actually redo the tooling to make this version more accurate, that would be amazing. Major rework of a body shell mo(u)ld is quite expensive! Edited February 11, 2021 by peteski

We'll just have to see what Revell are going to do with the body, again the talk of the re-tooling came from an unofficial source, but usually knows what's going on, hopefully after talking to my contact at Revell in Germany on and off for the last few weeks, the red styrene should be history, from what I can take from my conversations with them, is that the actual moulding is done by a third party based in Poland.

Yay no more red. I can see on several of my boxes that it says "Made in Poland". Perhaps you could ask your contact at Revell how it is going fixing the windshield?

That's what was initially turning me off about this kit. While the execution of it is very well done, I can't unsee that way too low windshield header. I do like that they designed the kit to not have those seams on the side.......something not seen on the 1:1. We'll see how it goes. I already have the Heller kit which to my eyes is spot on correct when it comes to the shape. It's just so lacking in other details that it appears "empty" if built straight out of the box.

Most (if not all) recently produced Revell DE kits have been moulded in Poland (and many are done in white or light gray plastic). That has been true for few years. It is actually nice to see kit production done in my birth country (not in China)>

The earlier cars had flat bottoms, and did not have the footwells in the bottom of the floorpan to give a little extra legroom. I think it is something like the first 600 cars were flatbottom. This one has the footwells, and they did do a nice job of it. Doing a nice job so far Geoff - BTW, you can actually assemble the entire front frame and paint before adding the engine and accessories. Hope that helps with your build! Steve D

I knew about the "Flat Floor" E Types, I wasn't sure on the dates, or how many were produced, speaking to an E Type specialist early gave me this information, About 2,000 E-types were built before the floorpans were extended, and it’s thought that only 631 of these were right-hand drive; just 175 are reckoned to have been coupes

I had thought about fixing in the subframe in place before I paint it, thanks for the heads up, I've got 8 models on the back-burner, hopefully the spraybooth and compressor will be going into the new workshop in the next few weeks, then I can crack on with my modelling.
dbostream Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 I wonder what the status is for the Coupe? Did it ever make it onto Revell's website? The roadster is there now: https://www.revell.de/en/products/modelmaking/cars/young-oldtimer/jaguar-e-type-roadster.html

The Roadster carries different inserts and isn't directly affected with whatever potential retool they might be doing to the Coupe's roof.

I am in no rush to get the kit I can wait if they get the windscreen/roof fixed.
